Reporting to the Senior Advisor, Business Development, the Advisor, Harvesting Economy is accountable for the fulfilment of the Government of Nunavut’s Katujjiluta priority to diversity our local economies to achieve more communities benefiting from the fishing, harvesting, and tourism sectors. The Advisor, Harvesting Economy is accountable for developing and implementing the Country Food Distribution Program (CFDP) and for the implementation of the bilateral (Canada-Nunavut) agreement to implement the Sustainable – Canadian Agricultural Partnership (SCAP)

As a key member of the Department of Community Services, the Advisor, Harvesting Economy will lead the department’s efforts to support Nunavut’s harvesting economy, whether through strengthening local sharing networks or developing commercial opportunities. This will require comprehensive collaboration and communication with Inuit organizations, governments, community organizations, NGOs, business and the public. The effective fulfilment of these accountabilities will result in greater public involvement in the development of solutions to local food access and ensure that harvesting receives the support it needs to thrive as a prominent and sustainable sector in Nunavut’s mixed economy.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are typically attained through a Diploma in environmental technology, social sciences, business administration or related field and 2 years of experience in the harvesting and/or local food production sectors.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.

A degree in renewable resources, the physical sciences, public or business administration, adult education industry is as an asset.
