About the role

Who We Are:

At Canco, we’re Canadian born and raised. We are an independent chain of gas stations launched in 2016. A bold alternative to big-box retailers, Canco was born from a vision to become a leading gas retailer brand. We purchase directly from major fuel refineries and terminals in Canada to ensure premium products are offered at competitive prices. Proudly local, we put people first and run our business with honesty, integrity, and excellence.

The Role:

We are seeking an experienced Cybersecurity and Network Security Specialist to oversee and enhance the company’s overall security posture and network infrastructure. As a Microsoft-centric organization utilizing Microsoft 365 for administration, collaboration, and security, this role plays a key part in safeguarding both our Head Office and retail locations. The successful candidate will design, implement, and manage advanced security solutions, including firewalls, managed switches, and endpoint/network protections. This role requires a proactive mindset, strong attention to detail, and occasional travel to retail sites to assess and improve infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement cybersecurity policies, processes, and technologies aligned with frameworks such as NIST CSF, ISO 27001, and industry best practices
  • Perform risk assessments, cybersecurity posture assessments, and develop mitigation plans aligned with organizational goals
  • Configure and maintain network security devices, including managed switches, firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion prevention systems (IPS)
  • Monitor and manage the company’s security posture using tools including Microsoft Defender XDR, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Intune, and Microsoft Purview
  • Manage Identity and Access Management (IAM) and Conditional Access Policies following best practices and Zero Trust principles
  • Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and penetration testing to proactively identify and mitigate risks
  • Ensure visibility of all network-connected devices across retail locations and Head Office environments
  • Collaborate with IT teams to harden endpoints, servers, and applications through secure configuration and automation
  • Travel to retail sites to assess infrastructure, deploy secure configurations, and remediate vulnerabilities
  • Oversee the rollout and maintenance of standardized networking hardware and secure configurations across retail stores
  • Maintain and document a comprehensive inventory of network devices, configurations, and security assets
  • Provide ongoing security awareness training, guidance, and support to IT staff and retail employees
  • Respond to and investigate security incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions
  • Manage the company’s Security Awareness Training program lifecycle and engagement

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field. Equivalent experience is acceptable.
  • Minimum 4 years of hands-on experience in network security and cybersecurity roles.
  • Certifications (preferred):
    • Microsoft Certified: Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals (or higher certifications like Azure Security Engineer Associate).
    • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
    • Certified Information Security Manager (CISM).
    • CompTIA Security+ or Network+.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Expertise in Microsoft 365 security and compliance tools: Defender XDR, Entra ID, Intune, Purview
    • Experience configuring and managing firewalls, VPNs, and network infrastructure
    • Proficiency with IAM, Conditional Access, and Zero Trust security models
    • Strong understanding of network protocols, architecture, and troubleshooting tools
    • Familiarity with compliance and regulatory frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, PCI DSS)
    • Strong scripting and automation skills, especially with PowerShell
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and documentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small, fast-paced team

Benefits:

  • Competitive Salary: $75,000.00 - $80,000.00
  • Extended health and dental benefits after the probationary period.
  • RRSP Matching.
  • Paid time off.

This role is a Permanent Full-Time position at our Kelowna BC Head Office.
