EDUCATOR – EARLY LEARNING AND CHILD CARE CENTRE

PLASP Child Care Services is a charitable organization operating on a not-for-profit basis, providing high quality early learning and child care, for children up to 12 years of age. PLASP operates in more than 240 schools providing before school, lunch, and after school programs and 38 full-day early learning and child care centres and five EarlyON locations for children from 0 – 6 years

The curriculum for PLASP Centres is based on the HighScope® approach, where children develop important skills including language, pre-math and pre-reading skills. The daily routine is designed to allow time for the children to explore and learn independently and for the adults to plan more structured teaching time. All programing incorporate the Ministry of Education pedagogy, How Does Learning Happen? The PLASP Centres also follow other quality initiatives like Raising the Bar, AQI, and PQA.

THE POSITION INVOLVES…

The successful candidate will provide a full range of duties, including:

  • Assists in establishing and maintaining a safe, warm, and caring environment in which a high quality child care program (Early Learning and Child, Extended Day) and family program (EarlyON) can operate.

  • Works cooperatively with the Site Director and Program Staff to plan, develop and implement a program of stimulating activities for young children which will promote their physical, social, emotional and intellectual well-being.

  • Assumes the responsibilities and duties of supporting PLASP Programs (Early Learning and Child Care Centres, School Age Programs, School Age Kindergarten Programs and EarlyON Programs)

  • Demonstrated knowledge of How Does Learning Happen?, the HighScope Curriculum and the CCEYA

  • Follows all PLASP Health & Safety policy and procedures as outlined in the Health and Safety Manual and ensure that the health and safety of the children is maintained at all time.

  • Familiar with all emergency procedures required by PLASP and the Child Care Early Years Act and ensures such procedures are implemented

  • Ensures that each child's parents are spoken with regularly about their child's activities at the centre.

  • Attends regular meetings with team, immediate supervisor and region, as well as the organization’s Annual Meetings.

THE PREFFERED CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • A degree or diploma in the field of Early Childhood Education preferred

  • Listed in “Good Standing” with the College of Early Childhood Education (RECE) required

  • Familiarity with requirements of the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA)

  • Strong knowledge of the HighScope Curriculum

  • Holds a valid Standard First Aid Certificate, with level C CPR

  • All health requirements (immunizations) to be met in accordance with the CCEYA, Medical Officer of Health and PLASP

  • Strong decision making and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent relationship building skills

  • Ability to plan organize and implement activities for children and families in accordance with the Ministry requirements

  • Physically able to assist children and able to set up, move and carry program equipment.

  • A flexible and willing attitude

  • Strong knowledge of all relevant policies and procedures

PLASP Child Care Services is a community-based, charitable organization operating on a not-for-profit basis, providing accessible, affordable, high quality licensed child care to all children, including those with diverse learning needs.

PLASP provides care for children from 6 weeks to 12 years of age. The organization operates Before and After School programs in over 240 elementary schools located and 28 Early Learning and Child Care Centres located throughout Peel and in Toronto, and five EarlyON centres in Peel Region. Where there is sufficient need, PLASP provides year-round care for school age children by providing programs during P.A. days, the winter holidays, March break and summer, at selected locations.

Established in 1975, PLASP has built a solid reputation as an excellent provider of child care and early childhood education. PLASP believes that families are entitled to the support of high quality child care that is affordable, safe and reliable , giving them the peace of mind to go to work each day.

All PLASP programs are licensed. PLASP hires staff who are Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECEs) who are registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators. All staff must have a valid First Aid Certificate and clear criminal reference check. Staff in our Before and After School Programs have completed at extensive training to program in providing care to school age children that is recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Education and the Child Care and Early Years Act. Currently, PLASP employees over 1,500 individuals in our programs and at our head office in Mississauga.

PLASP has been voted the number one provider of child care by the readers of the Mississauga News Newspaper and City Parent Magazine every year since 1998. PLASP annually surveys parents regarding their level of satisfaction with the program and continues to receive an overall satisfaction rate of 94%.
