About the role

POSITION OVERVIEW
Working collaboratively with other team members, the Community Engagement Coordinator plays a key role in planning and implementing low barrier engagement events. The Community Engagement Coordinator connects with women accessing the Centre to learn more about their interests and needs, using this information to inform program development and delivery. This position plays a key role in helping the Centre deliver on its commitment to build connections and community.

KEY DUTIES

  • Obtain feedback from women accessing the Centre to identify interest areas for programming that builds social inclusion and skills.
  • Build relationships with internal and external interested parties in service of meaningful collaboration.
  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver low barrier engagement events throughout the Centre.
  • Develop a schedule of accessible programming in alignment with program and organizational priorities.
  • Represent the Centre at external events as needed.
  • Ensure program statistics are collected and documented in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Contribute towards a culture of psychological safety.
  • Build effective relationships with clients, volunteers, and supporters of the Centre.
  • Support the overall successful functioning of the Centre.
  • Participate in activities related to equity, diversity, and inclusion as well as Justice and Reconciliation.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Social Work diploma or undergraduate degree preferred. A combination of relevant work and educational experience will be considered.

  • Member in good standing with relevant regulatory body if applicable.

  • 3+ years of experience working in a community-based setting.

  • Advanced understanding of women’s issues, their root causes, and the importance of empowering women and girls.

  • Strong planning, time management, and organizational skills.

  • Experience facilitating presentations and group programming.

  • Basic knowledge of de-escalation and safety management skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with people of diverse backgrounds.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Capacity to remain calm under pressure.

  • Bilingualism is an asset.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The Women’s Centre is a storefront community centre operating in an open environment. This role will require attendance and participation in off-site meetings and events in the community. This position requires some evening and weekend work.
