As an Inspector, you will be responsible for the high-level operational planning and leadership in relation to the oversight of Peace Officer Sergeants, Peace Officers and administrative staff. You will ensure regulatory compliance and enhance public safety by navigating operational challenges, execution of programs, fostering interagency and community collaborations, and leading diverse projects. Primary duties include:

  • Provide leadership and guidance to Peace Officers, Sergeants, support staff and other partner public safety units.
  • Conduct recruitment, selection, onboarding functions, and lead the performance development and management of staff.
  • Plan and manage staffing models and direct the allocation of resources to maximize operational efficiencies.
  • Collaborate and influence the planning and provision of psychological support and wellness programs.
  • Apply leadership and decision making around the complaints and investigations processes.
  • Execute safety audits, identify potential hazards, develop and implement emergency preparedness plans.
  • Address citizen and regulatory appeals related to enforcement actions and sanctions.
  • Ensure compliance with municipal bylaws, provincial legislation, and Alberta Justice Standards.
  • Support community outreach and develop community programs to prevent crime and address social disorder.
  • Cultivate strategic partnerships with internal departments, law enforcement agencies and external parties to facilitate communication and collaboration between the municipality, community organizations and other government agencies.
  • Provide guidance and input into Peace Officer policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Support and consult on bylaw amendments or additions to address issues and trends.
  • Ensure sound management of financial, human and material resources.

Qualifications

  • A completed 2 year diploma in Criminal Justice, Business, Public Safety, Social Work or a related field and at least 8 years of related experience including demonstrated progressive leadership; OR
  • A degree in Criminal Justice, Business, Public Safety, Social Work or related field and at least 4 years of related experience including demonstrated progressive leadership.
  • Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits, and no current suspensions or charges pending.
  • Knowledge of federal, provincial, and municipal regulations and enforcement requirements.
  • Experience with collective agreements, safety legislation and legislative processes.
  • You are a self-motivated team player who enjoys a fast-paced, multi-faceted workplace and has keen political sensitivity, is results oriented and demonstrates the following competencies:

  • An enhanced security clearance will be conducted.
  • Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
