About the role
Your Opportunity:
The Family Counselor provides system-based assessment and treatment, case management, and coordination of therapeutic services for program clients and their families within the Summit Day Hospital Program. The Day Hospital serves children and adolescents with significant and complex mental health issues and co-morbid conditions. The Family Counselor collaborates with an interdisciplinary team of health professionals, and is required to carry an advanced clinical caseload and provide family, and individual assessment and treatment, group therapy, milieu management and crisis intervention. Flexibility is required for practice within an evolving continuum of care. The Family Counselor delivers treatment daily via milieu, group and individual sessions using a variety of treatment modalities. Meets with individual youth clients as well families for family therapy. Contacts collaterals to support case management. Consults with treatment team to help develop treatment goals with client and family. Facilitates the intake and discharge process. Participates in Rounds with all clinicians, psychiatrists and nurses. Utilizes a variety of assessment techniques (formal and informal) to help develop treatment goals and care plans for youth and families.

As a Family Counsellor, you will provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up to clients and their families. You will also provide clinical focused consultation with other programs or community resources and acts as a liaison to develop and promote preventative health programs in the community. You will collaborate with other health care providers and community service providers to ensure a continuum of care in the community.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of master's degree in a health related field.
Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology or Nursing. Registration with ACSW (social workers must be authorized to perform psychosocial interventions), CAP or CARNA.
Preferred Qualifications:
3-5 years of experience working in a multidisciplinary mental health team. Experience working with children and adolescents with mental illness. Completion of Brain Story Certification preferred. Collaborative Problem Solving Training preferred. Suicide Risk Assessment training.
