About the role

Description:
Provide leadership, administration, coordination, and guidance for the ski patrol department. This should align with corporate goals and objectives by providing a reasonable skiing environment for guests and employees to include professional and timely information, first aid, and evacuation services.

Essential Functions:

  • Oversee the day-to-day administration and supervision of the ski patrol operation and personnel.
  • Assist Manager with the staffing, training, evaluation, and motivation of all personnel in the department to ensure effective, professionally competent, innovative operations that are commensurate with corporate philosophies. Oversee the development of all medical and rescue protocol and procedures.
  • Help develop budget proposals and control expenses for the patrol operations and assigned capital projects. Maintain accountability for actual expenditures within the scope and objective of approved budgets.
  • Formulate and direct implementation of tactical plans to meet corporate service levels and assigned special event/maintenance objectives. This includes the proper placement and maintenance of all temporary trail and directional signage, closures, obstacle marking, padding, boundary management, trail opening/closings, etc.
  • Assist in the snow safety program, including:
  • Operational objectives
  • Stability evaluation
  • Avalanche control
  • Rescue training
  • Record keeping
  • Oversee the maintenance of all assigned machinery, tools, equipment, and mountain assets in Patrol Center and Mountain Huts.
  • Oversee the preparation, construction, maintenance, snowmaking and clean-up of all public safety and crowd control related closures/fencing, etc. for all special events held on the mountain in coordination with the special events.
  • Administer training programs for personnel to include:
  • First Aid
  • CPR
  • Lift evacuation
  • Avalanche rescue
  • Out -of-area search
  • Skier safety
  • Snow science

Job Experience:
Years’ experience in patrol operations at a major Mountain ski resort.

High school diploma or equivalent. College degree preferred.

Expert alpine, back country, Outdoor Emergency Care Certified;

Canadian Red Cross, CPR certified; must have intimate knowledge of the A.R.C; and strong supervisory, management and communication skills.

Must be able to lift and carry toboggans weighing up to 70 lbs.

Must not have a history of physical limitations.

Must be able to hear and speak clearly to ensure good communication.

Strong skier in all types of Terrain and Snow.

Contacts:
Internal: Frequent contact with all levels of management and staff members of numerous mountain and village departments. Contacts can be sensitive in nature and/or deal with disciplinary issues.

External: Daily contact is frequent with resort guests and very sensitive on numerous occasions. Contact with parties outside the company varies from day to day.
