About the role

Field Safety Advisor :

Based out of Nisku/Fort Saskatchewan

The Field Safety Advisor reports to the Director/Manager, HSE and Road Transport and plays an important role in ensuring the company’s commitment to safe operation of our commercial vehicles. The successful candidate will work closely with all levels of the organization and our clients by performing driver and vehicle safety inspections, worksite inspections, direct project support, supporting injured worker treatment and care plans, responding to incidents, completing investigation and associated documents and reporting for both the client and company regulatory requirements.

This is a permanent full time position, regular travel reflecting 80% time in the field.

Duties & Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct incident investigation, recommend corrective/preventative measures.
  • Conduct infield inspections at client site, on an ongoing basis throughout AB and BC.
  • Work with management and all levels of the organization to provide a clear outline of safety requirements by job classification and work site locations.
  • Attend and participate in client required meetings, investigations and audits.
  • Facilitate and lead safety activities, meetings and assist with COR audits as required.
  • Monitoring employee safety forms and submissions, ensuring employees are completing required frequency of submissions in support of Field Supervisors and operator success.
  • Assist in creation and administration of SOPs, JHA’s and FLHA’s.
  • Conduct safety training, mentorship and safety-first mindset development.
  • Perform periodic review of ELD systems, logbooks, equipment, to ensure all are within company and legislative requirements.
  • Assist with HSE documentation as assigned by the Director, HSE and Road Transport
  • Provide active onsite support during major projects and facility Turnarounds.
  • Conduct shop safety inspections, observations and training sessions as required to support excellence in shop safety.
  • Other duties may be assigned as required.

Qualifications, Education and Experience

  • Minimum Education (NCSO).
  • Post-secondary OHS related education with combined experienced will be a consideration.
  • Strong knowledge of Federal and Provincial OH&S legislation and regulations.
  • 3+ years of Health and Safety, field experience is required, conducting investigations as asset.
  • Strong organization and time management skills to complete multiple priorities effectively.
  • Ability to mentor staff, and effect change.
  • Excellent skill level and experience using Microsoft – Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions combined with the ability to work as part of a team, to communicate and share information.
  • Field safety tickets: H2S Alive, Intermediate First Aid, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, CSTS2020, and CSO
  • Class 5 driver’s license with approved 5-year abstract.

The work schedule and starting wage will be based on a combination of Monday to Friday 40-hour workweek and candidate experience. We are a growing company, working in a fast paced industry, the need for a flexible work schedule and on call ability to respond to an incident will be needed.

  • Commercial transport inspection: 2 years (preferred)
  • Field Safety Advisor: 3 years (preferred)
  • Oilfield & Gas, Vac and Pipeline Project: 3 years (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

  • Class 3 License with clean abstract (preferred)
  • Incident Inspection Certificate (preferred)
  • Safety Supervision Certificate (preferred)
  • NCSO certification (preferred)
  • Class 5 License with clean abstract (preferred)
