Cambrian Credit Union is seeking a Senior Accountant.

Working as part of the Finance team, the Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the Controller in the management of Cambrian’s financial records, current account and investments, accounts payable, and budget preparation. The Senior Accountant will strengthen the Finance team by providing coaching and guidance to the Accountant, as well as work directly with other departments and external parties to create efficiencies and disseminate required financial information.

In the role of Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for:

  • Regular accounting operations, such as month end accounting, resolving outages, and review of work of the Accountant team member.

  • Operation of Cambrian’s accounts payable system, including the review of invoices, adding users and vendors, and troubleshooting user issues.

  • General maintenance of Cambrian’s general ledger.

  • Financial statement preparation, budgeting, and forecasting.

  • Supporting the execution of effective and efficient year-end audits with external partners, including interim review activities.

  • Supporting other departments and external parties through regular communication of required financial information.

  • Creation and maintenance of Finance policy and procedure documentation.

  • Supporting the Finance team through work on dynamic projects while maintaining a high standard of accuracy.

  • Providing aid and support to the Controller as deemed necessary or required.

Your Education & Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years combined accounting and finance experience in an accounting role.
  • Accounting education (BComm or accounting certificate), or equivalent work experience required.
  • CPA designation or progress towards CPA is considered an asset.
  • Strong technical skills in accounting, including planning, budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite with a focus on Excel and it’s various functions.
  • Previous experience in a credit union considered an asset.
  • Previous experience with audits and/or comprehension of regulatory requirements considered an asset.
  • Critical thinker who analyzes information and uses logic to address problems and challenges.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work well in a diverse environment with multiple and often changing priorities.
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on coaching and problem solving.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
