About the role

This posting is for 1 full-time non-permanent hourly position up to 6 months.

Strathcona County is extending an employment opportunity to post-secondary students enrolled in a GIS program to work with Transportation Engineering and Operations (TEO). This position provides an excellent opportunity for students to expand their knowledge in areas such as data collection and analysis, data quality improvement, mapping and web GIS application development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and edit geospatial data/apps in the Strathcona County Enterprise GIS via ArcGIS Products (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Portal for ArcGIS and Enterprise Geodatabases)
  • Perform data collection, data entry, and other tasks essential for maintaining accurate and up-to-date asset records (Note data collection may involve field-based duties)
  • Create high-quality maps to meet operational needs and support decision making
  • Conduct business and spatial analysis to complete assigned activities

Qualifications and Skills

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary Geographic Information Systems (GIS) program
  • Experience with Esri ArcGIS Products (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Portal for ArcGIS and enterprise geodatabases) is considered an asset
  • Basic cartographic skills and knowledge of GPS data collection
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handling deadlines and interruptions while managing conflicting priorities
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to complete routine tasks with accuracy and focus
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to maintain a professional and positive image with internal and external customers and residents
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to learn on the job and take on new challenges

Conditions of Employment

  • Reliable personal transportation is required (no public transit routes to TEO’s office)
