About this Opportunity

Reporting to the Provost & Vice President Academic, the Division of Student Affairs helps to transform students’ lives by supporting and inspiring the highest standards of student learning and success, community engagement, and staff development. The Division is comprised of 26 reporting units in four departments: Athletics and Recreation, Campus Services, Office of the Registrar, and Student Services. The comprehensive and integrated range of services we provide make Student Affairs one of the most dynamic and diverse divisions on campus. Together, we support UVic’s vision “to be a university of choice for outstanding students, faculty, and staff from BC, Canada, and around the world.”

An employee in this classification is excluded from the bargaining unit as defined in the Labour Relations Code.

The salary range for this position is:

  • Recruitment range: $98,387 - $122,854 maximum starting salary is determined through knowledge, experience and internal equity.
  • Performance range: $141,203 salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases.

Job Summary

The Strategic Initiatives and Projects Manager is responsible for developing and implementing project management plans that support the goals and objectives of the Division of Student Affairs. They work closely with other members of the Student Affairs executive team and leadership to ensure that major projects are well organized and managed, and that students are informed about the critical programs, services, and resources available to them.

The Strategic Initiatives and Projects Manager plays a critical role in supporting student success by ensuring major divisional initiatives are effectively established, managed, and completed.

Key objectives include:

  • Developing and implementing project management strategies that align with institutional goals for student development, retention, and success.
  • Creating a supportive and inclusive environment that fosters student academic, personal, and professional growth.
  • Ensuring divisional projects are well-organized, strategically planned, and successfully executed.
  • Strengthening collaboration across departments to enhance coordination, transparency, and impact.
  • Promoting a culture of continuous improvement through data-informed decision-making and stakeholder engagement.

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 5+ years of experience as a project management professional in an academic, government, or public agency that includes:

  • A project management designation and/or 5+ years of experience.
  • Demonstrated success leading full-cycle projects and facilitating strategic planning and change management
  • Experience navigating multi-stakeholder settings with competing priorities and confidential or sensitive issues.

Skill requirements:

  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing the principles of truth, reconciliation and respect, equity diversity and inclusion, and contributing to an inclusive learning and working environment.
  • Strong understanding of operational functions, including finance, service delivery, and team management.
  • Proven ability to meet project goals on time and produce high-quality, measurable outcomes.
  • Proven ability to work with confidential, complex, and/or sensitive issues with multiple stakeholders.
  • Innovative, adaptable, and proactive in identifying and addressing emerging needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to engage diverse groups and all levels of university personnel.
