EveryMind Mental Health Services is currently recruiting for a skilled, experienced, and enthusiastic mental health professional for the position of Respite Child & Youth Worker to work with various programs and services to provide a continuum of mental health interventions to children/youth and their families on a part-time role.
EveryMind is an accredited child and youth mental health organization that provides a continuum of high-quality mental health services for children, youth and their families who are experiencing or are at risk of experiencing mental health, social, emotional and/or behavioural challenges. Our services are provided in a dynamic, client-centred environment that values respect and inclusion, collaboration, learning, innovation, and accountability.
The Respite program is one of the respite services offered under Peel Region’s Respite Service. The program provides support to families and their children that are being impacted by mental health challenges or concerns. Individual respite plans are focused on each client’s social, emotional, behavioural and mental health needs. This service is offered during after-school hours and weekends.
This is a part-time permanent position working 24 hours per week.
Hiring Salary range - $35,398 - $41,410 (5 step band) over 5 years.
Please note that hiring salaries are commensurate with experience and generally start at the beginning of the range.

Job Responsibilities
The incumbent will:
- Provide direct service to clients (children & youth) by carrying out social and recreational activities as identified in the respite plan
- Encourage a supportive environment for clients
- Work in conjunction with the Respite Coordinator as a member of the Respite team
- Implement respite plans for each client in collaboration with the other team members
- Transport clients as required and problem solve transportation issues.
- Shop for perishables; prepare meals; clean and maintain the Program
- Dispense medications and track medication ensuring that the physician’s medication orders are the same as on the prescription container.
- Utilize de-escalation techniques to manage crisis type situations
- Comply with all Health and Safety legislation to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for staff and clients.
- Complete and maintain required mandatory training and take responsibility for continuing professional development.
Skills & Qualifications
- A Child & Youth Worker diploma with a minimum of two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Thorough knowledge of mental health issues and the ability to apply behavioral skills and implement strategies;
- Demonstrate sensitivity to client needs through a strength-based approach;
- Have a proven understanding of a milieu environment and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team;
- Knowledge of Respite program design would be a decided asset.
- Experience in planning recreational programming activities for children and youth.
- Demonstrated competencies in managing crisis type situations and understanding of family dynamics;
- Ability to use tact and judgment in a respectful manner and apply these skills in a variety of situations;
- Possess exceptional interpersonal and conflict resolution skills;
- Utilize high levels of oral and written communication skills, time management and critical thinking skills with a strong understanding of role boundaries;
- Knowledge of client database information system and MS Office Suite, internet and email
- Availability to work evenings and weekends as well as flexible hours in the summer
- Possess current standard First Aid Certificate and UMAB certification (Understanding and Managing Aggressive Behaviour) is required
- Must Have a valid Ontario Driver’s license (Full G Class**),** relevant insurance and use of a vehicle with a comfort in driving clients throughout the Peel region (and surrounding areas) when needed
- A Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check and Pre-Employment Medical screening (including TB test, MMR, TD, Polio, Covid-19 Vaccination), is required
