Financial Accountant (Canada)

3 Month contract - good possibility of extension

Reports To: Corporate Controller

Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Financial Accountant is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of financial reporting, analysis, and compliance activities that support the company’s operational and strategic goals. This leadership role drives the financial close process, strengthens internal controls, and provides critical insights to support business decisions and performance management.

Success in this position is measured by the ability to meet reporting deadlines, maintain compliance standards, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance financial accuracy and business outcomes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Prepare journal entries and ensure all necessary supporting documentation is maintained

• Complete and document general ledger (GL) account reconciliations

• Manage federal and provincial tax compliance, including filing returns, processing installments, and payments

• Process and reconcile intercompany transactions

• Perform and/or review reconciliations for key accounts

• Prepare and/or review monthly accruals key accounts

• Calculate and record tax provisions as required

• Initiate wire transfer payments

• Review and approval of treasury-related supplier forms

• Support internal and external audits by providing the required schedules and documentation

• Fulfill monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting obligations in system, including:

• Trial balances (preliminary and final)

• Standard monthly reporting forms

• Forecast submissions and management certifications

• Account reconciliations

• Sector-level financial analytics

SKILLS/SPECIFICATIONS:

• Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in accounting, financial analysis, and reporting roles.

• CPA and/or post-secondary accounting degree strongly preferred.

• Demonstrated ability to lead end-to-end financial processes in a dynamic and complex environment.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative, business-partnering approach.

• High level of ownership, accountability, and initiative.

• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.

• Strong leadership and problem-solving skills, with a focus on root cause analysis and continuous improvement.

• Experience with internal audit processes, internal controls, and regulatory compliance (SOX experience an asset).
