Reporting to the Manager, Accounting Services, the Senior Accounting Services Coordinator delivers timely, accurate, and professional accounting services to the Firm while maintaining the highest standards of efficiency, compliance, and confidentiality.
Major Responsibilities
- Process payment requisitions, accounts payable invoices, and employee expense claims
- Provide trust accounting services to assist the Trust Team, including the processing and completion of trust transactions
- Train new coordinators and cross-train team members on various tasks to ensure operational continuity
- Serve as a resource and leader for the Accounting Services Team, providing guidance and support as needed
- Process significant vendor payments and held disbursements, while simultaneously handling high volumes of transactions under time-sensitive requirements
- Assess the most effective payment method and initiates payment via cheque, wire transfer, EFT or credit card and follows specific protocols for each method
- Reconcile outstanding vendor invoices and follows-up with necessary course of action to ensure payments are fulfilled
- Respond to general inquiries from both internal and external sources about policies, procedures, deadlines, and status of accounting-related transactions
- Organize filing and storage of related supporting documentation pursuant to Firm and external audit standards utilizing a combination of different software systems, such as ExpertImage and Adobe Acrobat Pro
- Adhere to strict internal control policies to mitigate internal and external risks facing the Firm
- Record various commodity taxes and request tax registration numbers/documents from vendors when needed
- Handle confidential materials and documents, maintaining strict confidentiality in accordance with Firm policies
- Perform other duties as required
Position Requirements
Education and Experience
The position requires a Community College diploma in a business discipline and/or a minimum of five years of accounting experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be acceptable.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams)
- Experience with related accounting systems (Aderant Expert) and computer applications (Adobe Acrobat, ExpertImage) would be an asset
- Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills are required to communicate with a number of various contacts internally and externally, at varying levels within the organization
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic and deadline-oriented environment
- Attention to detail and accuracy with numbers
- General knowledge of commodity taxes and recoverability rules
- Bilingual in English and French would be an asset
We are currently working in a hybrid work arrangement, which includes a requirement to work primarily in the office and flexibility to work remotely up to 2 days per week.
