This is a dynamic role that will be working with the construction operations teams to support and provide direction on regulatory, monitoring, training, report completion, and implementing solutions, opportunities for improvement, and corrective actions.

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

Knowledge of environmental regulations and guidelines including but not limited to: Ontario EPA, OWRA, TDG, OHSA, O.Reg. 347/90, O.Reg.558, O.Reg 153/04, O. Reg 406/19, Municipal by-laws.

Field experience in sampling (water and soil) and inspections.

This role is based out of Kakabeka Falls, Ontario.

What You Will Be Working On

  • Support the implementation and ensure compliance with the Project Environmental Management Plans, through planning, training, managing, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Provide recommendations for improving environmental protection and support incident investigations, and/or issues of non‑compliance.
  • Management of project aspects involving soil and water characterization, waste management, wildlife, and designated substances and hazardous materials.
  • Conduct daily environmental site inspections to monitor compliance with regulatory requirements, project specifications, and environmental management plans;
  • Provide field support, including inspections and sampling, for site conditions, wildlife findings, surface water, and soil quality.
  • Liaise with construction teams, subcontractors, consultants, and government agencies to support environmental coordination needs on-site; and
  • Promoting team effort and collaboration.

What We Are Looking For

  • 2 + years of work-related experience combined with post-secondary education with a specialization in environmental studies, or related discipline.
  • Field work experience, including inspections, monitoring, and sampling.
  • Experience dealing with regulatory authorities and meeting environmental compliance obligations;
  • Knowledge of environmental laws, regulations, and guidelines as they apply to environmental and construction projects in Ontario;
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving, practical solutions to problems and/or potential non-compliance situations; and
  • A strong commitment to teamwork; excellent verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Working towards or holding a certification as a Canadian Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control (CAN-CISEC), or have experience in observing, inspecting and reporting on the implementation of Erosion and Sediment Control Plans is an asset.
