About the role

Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate will be working at our Ottawa (1800 Alta Vista Drive) or Toronto (67 College Street) major site office and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About The Role Canadian Blood Services is looking for a regular full-time Program Manager, Annual Giving and Gift Management to join our dynamic Philanthropy, National Development team in our Donor Engagement and Corporate Reputation division .

The Philanthropy, National Development team is responsible for establishing and delivering a comprehensive fundraising and partner engagement program to support the strategic priorities of Canadian Blood Services. The team works collaboratively and diligently to engage donors and partners in supporting patients through the many ways to give to Canada’s Lifeline.

In this role, you will be solely responsible for the integrity of the philanthropy relationship management databases (e.g., Raisers Edge, Luminate, etc.). You will manage a portfolio of annual giving programs within the philanthropy function, utilizing detailed segmentation plans to drive performance through support of national and regional fundraising programs. You will determine data-driven insights to inform activities and support regional activations, provide accurate information regarding revenue-generating programs being executed in the regions, as well as execution of a national stewardship program. You will be responsible for identifying areas requiring remediation and recommending improvements as a means for informing, contesting, and refining national fundraising targets. Working with the Associate Director, Philanthropy, you will identify opportunities to increase awareness of Canadian Blood Services as a registered charity that accepts financial donations through articulating the need for all products, increasing brand recognition, and improving financial donor acquisition and retention rates.

You will serve as the centre of expertise for the integrity and manipulation of the philanthropy relationship and financial donation database (i.e., Raiser’s Edge) as an integral tool for the delivery of all fundraising programs, ensuring that it operates to its full potential to maximize revenue. You will support the national stewardship program through accurate and effective management of donor information and relationships. Accuracy of data and timeliness of dissemination are imperative to drive strategic approaches as financial donors move through the pipeline of engagement, resulting in an increase in financial giving. You will mitigate risk to corporate reputation through accurate financial donation processing and advising on customized high-touch stewardship plans. You will also develop and manage performance reporting processes utilizing the philanthropy relationship and financial donation database and provides advice to the team on trends/areas requiring analysis/mitigation. Additionally, you will use best practices in fundraising methods and tools, as well as CRA regulations as they pertain to ethical fundraising practices.

Formula for success

  • Harnessing your excellent organizational skills, you will manage implementation, execution and evaluation of annual giving programs, including but not limited to monthly, tribute and online giving, based on industry best practices including internal and external data analysis to increase philanthropic support to Canadian Blood Services.
  • You will inform the development of new and innovative donor acquisition strategies for annual giving programs and national development programs as appropriate.
  • Leveraging your strong analytical and prioritization skills, you will manage all information/data related to financial donations, donors, partners and prospects in philanthropy relationship and financial donation data management system (e.g., Raisers’ Edge, Luminate, etc.). Create, updates and maintain data structure for philanthropy relationship and financial donation data management system, including but not limited to effective set up and maintenance of database structure; proposal and pipeline activity; accuracy of donor and prospect information; maintaining accurate soft credit and pledge input.
  • Drawing on your attention to detail and planning skills, you will manage end-to-end donation processing from receiving financial donations, entering data into philanthropy relationship and financial donation data management system (i.e., Raisers’ Edge) and overseeing tax-receipting process in a timely fashion.
  • Utilizing your exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, in collaboration with divisions across the organization, you will provide efficient and accurate information on the mandate of the national development team to promote awareness of the organization’s charitable status and opportunities to integrate financial giving within “all ways to give” focus for the corporate brand.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Desired education and skills

  • Post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution or appropriate combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of six years’ experience working with not-for-profit organization(s) in a fundraising environment.
  • Expert knowledge of Raisers’ Edge including Luminate Online, Team Raiser and NXT.
  • Experience in direct mail and online fundraising methodology, planning and execution.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
