Job Purpose
The Senior Graphic Designer is responsible for overseeing all graphic design projects and leading the development of creative concepts to support customer-facing campaigns as well as Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries’ (MBLL) corporate initiatives. The incumbent provides creative direction from concept stage through to design and execution for both traditional and digital media. The incumbent uses their design expertise to create inspiring and effective visual assets that are cohesive, consistent with brand guidelines, and achieve strategic objectives.
Job Responsibilities
- Oversee all external facing creative materials from conception to final delivery; provide clear direction, guidance, and feedback to design team members to ensure ability to meet business needs.
- Provide direction and mentorship to graphic designers on the creative process, concept development, layout, and effective interpretation of design briefs.
- Develop original and thoughtful design concepts and graphics that exceed our customers’ expectations.
- Recommend strategic design solutions to meet objectives within established timelines and resources.
- Design activities may include, but are not limited to: Print collateral, digital assets, signage, brand development.
- Provide design expertise on traditional and digital marketing initiatives for colleagues and clients.
- Lead creative brainstorming sessions and collaborate with other members of the Marketing Services team to maximize creativity and excellence in performance and delivery.
- Plan and direct photo and video shoots as required.
- Provide creative leadership on new marketing initiatives and corporate initiatives.
- Review all proofs and final files to ensure accuracy with the client’s request.
- Design and produce artwork consistent across a variety of media, in accordance with applicable regulations, policies, by-laws, contracts, accessibility, brand identity guidelines, and corporate design standards.
- Learn new applications and tools for design and production technology as required.
- Keep current with design trends and best practices.
- Lead the development and implementation of new or updated brand guidelines.
- Work collaboratively to ensure quality and consistency in design. Key interactions include members of the Marketing Services department, internal clients, external agencies, vendors, and partners.
- Meet with stakeholders to present with clarity and confidence the proposed concepts and designs that are consistent with the design brief.
- Lead new campaign and concept development meetings and creative sessions.
- Monitor activities and projects of the graphic design team. Provide oversight and creative influence to guide and advise in the creative process and client management to ensure high quality results.
- Review design schedules to ensure timelines are met.
- Develop, communicate, and implement action plans to address opportunities within the graphic design team.
- Work closely with the Manager, Marketing Services to establish and achieve performance metrics for the department.
- Participate in departmental and interdepartmental meetings as required to understand the marketing needs and priorities of MBLL’s business units.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Primary Qualifications
-
Diploma or certificate in Graphic Design, Graphic Communications or related field.

A minimum of seven years working in a professional graphic design role, with a minimum of two years’ experience at a senior level and a minimum of two years’ in a leadership capacity.

Formal training in graphic design production tools, including Adobe Creative Suite.

A high level of expertise with Adobe Creative Cloud applications and extensive experience with print and web design, graphics production.

A high level of understanding and knowledge of graphic files (sizes, conversions, mechanics, and applications).

A working knowledge of and experience with publishing processes (editorial, design, and print production).

Intermediate skills in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive, and Teams).

Ongoing professional development is required to obtain and maintain an expert level knowledge in current and emerging desktop publishing technology.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with superior attention to detail.

Ability to work independently or in a team environment.

Prepress experience and copywriting skills would be considered assets.

Have and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 drivers’ license is an asset.

Gaming, liquor, or related industry experience is an asset.
