About the role
We are seeking a dynamic, versatile Chef to join our culinary team for the National Bank Open, Canada’s premier tennis tournament. This is a fast-paced, high-profile event where you’ll be responsible for preparing meals for world-class athletes and their teams, executing VIP dining experiences, and supporting fast-service operations for thousands of tennis fans.
Key Responsibilities:
Culinary Execution
- Prepare and cook high-quality meals for ATP/WTA players and their entourages with attention to nutrition, dietary restrictions, and timing.
- Contribute to a refined, restaurant-style menu for VIP clientele in a sit-down hospitality setting.
- Assist in high-volume food prep and service for fast food-style concessions serving the general public.
Operational Excellence
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene and kitchen cleanliness at all stations in line with local health codes.
- Collaborate with sous-chefs, prep cooks, and servers to ensure smooth and timely food service.
- Follow event schedules and service windows to meet the needs of different service tiers.
Teamwork & Adaptability
- Rotate between kitchen areas as needed — from elite athlete dining to outdoor spectator concessions.
- Support setup and breakdown of mobile kitchens, pop-ups, or VIP lounges.
- Work under pressure while maintaining precision, speed, and attention to detail.
Qualifications:
- Culinary degree or equivalent professional experience (3+ years preferred in high-volume or event settings).
- Experience working in both high-end and fast-paced environments (sports events, hotels, or catering companies).
- Familiarity with special diets (gluten-free, vegan, high-protein athlete meals).
- Strong knowledge of food safety standards (MAPAQ, Food Handler Certificate, etc.).
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays during the event.
