POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Hospital Redevelopment plays a pivotal leadership role in shaping the future of Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) through the strategic planning and execution of major capital redevelopment initiatives. This position is accountable for driving all phases of redevelopment—ranging from early-stage conceptual planning through to project delivery—ensuring alignment with the hospital’s long-term clinical, operational, and infrastructure goals. The Director provides expert guidance on site development, stakeholder engagement, regulatory compliance, and resource integration, ensuring that all projects reflect OSMH’s vision for modern, patient-centered care.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Leadership

  • Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive capital redevelopment strategy, including repurposing of existing infrastructure and planning for new construction.
  • Collaborate closely with hospital leadership and external partners to ensure alignment with organizational priorities and Ministry of Health requirements.
  • Act as a key advisor on long-range infrastructure planning and transformational change within the healthcare environment.

Project Governance & Capital Planning

  • Establish and lead project governance frameworks, including active participation in the New Hospital Steering Committee and other key oversight bodies.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of planning documents (e.g., Stage 1.3 submissions) ensuring accuracy, and compliance with capital planning guidelines.
  • Support contract negotiations, procurement strategies, and development of business cases to secure funding and stakeholder support.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders, healthcare partners, municipal and provincial government agencies, consultants, and the broader community.
  • Develop and implement engagement strategies that promote transparency, foster trust, and manage expectations throughout all stages of redevelopment.
  • Support the organizations participation in public forums, consultations, and regulatory interactions.

Operational Oversight

  • Direct all aspects of project delivery including budgeting, scheduling, risk management, and quality assurance.
  • Provide oversight for all aspects of project execution, including budgeting, scheduling, quality control, risk management, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure seamless coordinator across Facilities Management, Environmental Services, IT, and clinical operations to ensure integration of infrastructure and operational needs.
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation in project delivery models, ensuring efficient use of resources and achievement of project milestones.

Performs other duties as may be assigned by leadership.

QUALIFCATIONS:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Health Administration, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare redevelopment or capital infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience managing large-scale, multi-phase capital projects in a healthcare setting.
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario’s capital planning process and healthcare infrastructure standards.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.

Experience:

  • Experience with hospital governance and board reporting.
  • Familiarity with sustainability practices in healthcare infrastructure.
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification.

  • Demonstrated high level of competence in strategic thinking, project management, business acumen and leadership skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to time-manage, organize, prioritize, and multi-task.
  • Demonstrated ability to be highly motivated with the ability to adapt quickly to new situations/challenges.
  • Demonstrated appreciation and respect for protocol, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated proficient communication skills in English, both written and verbal
