About the role
Research Assistants are normally students, in a University of Winnipeg undergraduate program, employed to assist with tasks related to research. Work is performed within defined guidelines and under supervision of a more senior researcher or faculty member.
Position Overview:
The Research Assistant will be required to undertake data cleaning and data visualization tasks, assist with analyzing and the summarizing findings from a dataset, and perform other editorial/administrative tasks. The individual will also assist in creating fact sheets or knowledge briefs, infographics or maps of data, and/or a presentation of findings to be shared with the community partner and relevant project stakeholders. The individual may also assist with reviewing relevant literature.
The Research Assistant will be an integral member of the Research Team and will attend and participate in meetings with the community partner. There may be opportunities for co-authoring a paper based on findings and analysis and/or presenting findings at scholarly or community venues.
Duties:
- Assist in cleaning and preparing data for analysis.
- Create tables and graphs summarizing the results.
- Create infographics and/or maps visualizing data.
- Assist in writing fact sheets or briefs summarizing and sharing results.
- Assist in presenting data findings to community partner and/or relevant stakeholders.
- May contribute to literature review.
- May assist in preparing articles and presentations.
- Meet regularly with the project team to discuss progress.
- May attend and participate in advisory committee meetings with the community partner.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of quantitative research methods.
- Experience mapping and knowledge of arcGIS or other mapping software an asset.
- Demonstrated technical writing skills.
- Knowledge of research ethics, particularly around secure storage of data and confidentiality.
- Computer proficiency (including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Knowledge of descriptive and inferential statistics an asset.
- Familiarity with a statistical program (e.g., SPSS) is an asset.
- Experience giving presentations or leading workshops an asset.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Highly developed critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment and independently, with general supervision.
- Ability to work with non-profit and community partner organizations an asset.
- Interest in immigration and refugee housing experiences an asset.
- The applicant will need access to their own computer and workspace.
Condition(s) of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
The period of work will be from June 24, 2025 - August 31, 2025 and the estimated total hours of work will be 15-50 hours.
