Job Description
The Marketing Research group designs, implements and communicates research and insights to key internal stakeholders to inform decision-making. Insights generated from custom research are used to identify and define business opportunities; provide input to strategic and tactical plans; assess and monitor performance on key marketing indicators; etc. Designs effective surveys tailored to stakeholder needs including analyzing findings and delivering actionable recommendations.
Job Responsibilities
Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Manager, Marketing Research.
- Initiates, designs, leads, executes, and interprets in-depth research projects.
- Develops, writes and presents research findings and recommendations to internal audiences.
- Manages research suppliers and is responsible for negotiating and achieving high quality insights, maximizing the value from expenditure on research, leading the yearly evaluation of suppliers/subcontractors and the periodic competitive bid process in the selection of new suppliers.
- Conducts research on market conditions to assess market potential and future trends for input to business strategies.
- Establishes effective working relationships with internal stakeholders across the company to advance organizational goals through a consultative approach, develop mutual understanding with clients (up to the level of a General Manager) and/or external customers (small, medium and enterprise businesses) in order to meet their needs, ensure their satisfaction and add value to their overall business goals.
- Integrates and evaluates all available information and develops well-reasoned decisions as well as thinking “outside the box” when analyzing complex market issues for the purpose of generating success in market.
- Provides guidance and instruction to managers and officers in analyzing data and conducting information analysis based on their unique, specialized technical and professional skills.
- Leads cross-functional teams charged with analytical and process support on specific projects and initiatives with accountability for deliverables and results.
Qualifications
Education
- Completed post-secondary, preferably in a related field
Experience
- 3 to 5 years of relevant Market Research experience
- 2 or more years’ experience managing people
- One or more years of experience in a unionized environment an asset
Other Candidate Requirements
- Expertise with Microsoft Office programs
- Demonstrated expertise with designing and executing end-to-end market research projects. Expert knowledge in qualitative and quantitative methods
- Experience using SPSS, R, or Python for basic data analysis
- Experience with Qualtrics programming an asset
- Excellent team building and leadership skills and experience
- Sound organizational, analytical, judgement and decision-making skills with proven abilities in problem solving
- Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to build and maintain relationships
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Comfortable presenting research insights to all levels within an organization
- eCommerce market expertise an asset
- Experience working for a research supplier is an asset
