Aboriginal Infant Development Program (AIDP) Support Worker

Position Summary
Seabird Island is committed to nurturing the developmental health and wellbeing of our youngest community members through culturally informed, family-centered care. We are seeking an Aboriginal Infant Development(AIDP) Support Worker to join our Early Childhood team, working with Indigenous children aged 0–3 years who require extra support within licensed childcare programs.
Under the supervision of the Child Development Team Lead, the AIDP Support Worker will work closely with families, childcare staff, and multidisciplinary professionals to assess, plan, and implement individualized support strategies that promote optimal growth and development. This role emphasizes relationship-building, early intervention, and the integration of traditional and contemporary approaches to caregiving and parenting
What You'll Do
Infant & Early Childhood Support
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to infants and toddlers who require additional assistance within licensed childcare settings.
- Facilitate the development and implementation of individualized support plans in collaboration with families and childcare staff.
- Use culturally informed strategies to stimulate or enhance infant development, tailored to each child’s unique needs.
- Administer and interpret developmental assessments such as the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) and Day-C Screening.
- Monitor and document developmental milestones, behavioral observations, and progress toward goals.
- Promote inclusive and safe environments for all children, supporting their emotional, physical, cognitive, and social growth.
Family Engagement & Advocacy
- Build trusting, respectful relationships with families, recognizing their expertise in their child’s development.
- Act as a liaison between families, early childhood educators, and other service providers.
- Advocate for family priorities within the early childhood system and support them in navigating services and resources.
- Blend traditional and contemporary parenting practices to promote wellness and cultural connection.
Program Support & Collaboration
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including early interventionists, speech-language pathologists, and child development consultants.
- Assist in planning and delivering family-centered programming, parent workshops, or group play sessions.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to communication tools such as newsletters, calendars, and resource materials.
- Support program documentation, including drafting monthly activity reports and case notes.
Community & Cultural Integration
- Support integration of Indigenous teachings, language, and cultural practices into early childhood activities.
- Act as a role model for healthy lifestyle choices and demonstrate respect for families, children, and Elders.
- Increase awareness of the needs and strengths of Indigenous children and families through education and advocacy.

Initial and ongoing employment is subject to submission of a clear Criminal Record Review Program Check to ensure the safety and trust of the communities we serve. This check will be conducted every five years.

Must possess a valid class 5 driver's license and have access to safe and reliable transportation, insured for community-based use, to effectively engage with and support families in our community and the communities we serve.
What You Bring
Qualifications:

A certificate or diploma in Early Childhood Education. We also recognize and value cultural knowledge and experience gained through other forms of education and training, including teachings from Elders and Knowledge Keepers.

Infant Toddler certification in BC considered an asset.

Diploma in Special Needs, Disabilities, or a related field considered an asset.

Experience supporting children aged 0–3 in early childhood or early intervention settings.

Demonstrated knowledge of child development, family-centered service delivery, and inclusive practices.

Ability to assess developmental needs and implement culturally appropriate intervention plans.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with families, children, and coworkers.

Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.

Experience with developmental screening tools and documentation of case files.
