Summary
The Settlement Worker provides direct client services and supports for newcomers in the areas of settlement, employment, and community connections to adapt to life in Canada. Through an integrated services approach, the Settlement Worker conducts comprehensive needs and assets assessment and referrals, 1-1 and group information, orientation, and employment sessions, service bridging, community connections, client outreach, and resource development using approaches that ensure service accessibility for all eligible clients. The Settlement Worker delivers services through various service delivery methods with the goal of facilitating their settlement and integration into the local community.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducts needs and assets assessments, develop service/settlement plans, and provide services bridging and referrals using client-centered and strengths-based approaches
- Provides individuals and families with information, orientation, community connections, and employment supports using a range of service delivery methods (online, telephone, email, and in-person) in 1-1 or group-based settings to achieve program outcomes
- Designs, coordinates, and delivers group sessions and workshops on a range of settlement, employment, and community connection topics using a variety of service delivery methods and from a gender-based analysis plus (GBA+) lens
- Assesses and responds to clients in crises or presenting with increased vulnerabilities and/or visible trauma (via phone, online, or in-person) and provides immediate support using violence/trauma-informed approaches and notifies supervisor when more in-depth service interventions are required
- Adopts a GBA+ lens in the daily delivery of services to ensure that the unique and intersectional needs of clients are identified and addressed through tailored service responses
- Provides first language service, as required, to increase service accessibility and enhance the client experience
- Keeps informed about current community, client, and service resources, trends, needs, changes, and service gaps in the general community and in specific client communities
- Work closely with community service providers to effectively refer and connect clients with appropriate community services (e.g. community services, recreation centers, libraries, etc.), with a particular focus on service providers that have expertise in or a mandate to support with Francophone, racialized, LGBTQIA+, people with disabilities, women, youth, seniors, survivors of violence, and other equity-seeking populations
- Keeps informed about local North Shore community resources, government systems (e.g., health system, housing system, local labour market, etc.), as well emerging settlement patterns and the changing immigration policy environment
- Adopt performance and quality improvement (PQI) approaches in daily work to ensure the continual improvement of services to achieve program outcomes
- Conducts outcomes measurement, program outreach and promotion, reporting, and client feedback collection
- Ensures service data is recorded in accordance with funder and organizational standards while adhering to privacy, confidentiality, and security policies
- Comply with all organizational policies, procedures, standards, and directives, as wells as funder expectations and requirements
- Participate in organizational and team meetings, professional development and training opportunities, and evaluation and performance and quality improvement activities
- Uphold professional ethics and standards including but not limited to those pertaining to privacy, confidentiality, health and safety
- Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in social services, human services, community development, humanities, counselling, and/or relevant experience
- 2-4 years of experience in a direct client service delivery role, such as conducting needs assessments, developing action plans, delivering information and orientation, developing service resources, and designing, coordinating, and facilitating workshops, and preferably with immigrants
- Training and/or experience in Mental Health First Aid, de-escalation, and violence/trauma-informed practice
- Strong understanding of the multiple settlement and integration stages and process
- Deep knowledge about the complex and intersectional needs, assets, barriers, and experiences of immigrants and their families, particularly from a GBA+ lens
- Knowledge about Canadian immigration, legal, political, cultural, employment, educational, and economic systems
- Knowledge about GBA+, anti-racist, violence/trauma-informed, and other equity-centered service practices
- Ability to identify barriers to services to promote equity and inclusion for a diverse client population from a GBA+ lens
- Strong knowledge of local systems and community resources and services on the North Shore
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Excel, Word, PPT, Teams, SharePoint), Zoom, and ability to learn and adapt to new technologies required for excellent service delivery
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Farsi is an asset
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to support programming and service delivery needs during daytime and evening hours as required
- Must be able to work in-person from community locations across North Vancouver and West Vancouver on a daily basis if required
- Required to undergo an annual performance review, with potential changes to roles based on performance, evolving expectations, and the need to meet best service deliverables and organizational goals.
Additional Information
- Salary Range: $25.00 - $27.00 per hour depending on the experience
- Work Schedule: 35 hours/week (schedule may vary)
- Start Date: July 14, 2025
- Work Environment:This is a hybrid position that requires 4 days in-office attendance, with one day flexibility for remote work weekly.
