As a Finance Coordinator, you will provide financial support to Real Estate & Development Services business unit.

You will be a key liaison who provides strategic financial expertise and support to operational business units, external partners, and Corporate Finance. You will engage with business unit operations and Finance to determine effective processes that meet financial reporting requirements and support financial reporting analysis. Primary duties include:

  • Communicate regularly with business units to provide financial analysis, professional judgment, process review, policy interpretation, and associated recommendations.
  • Facilitate and interpret Corporate Finance direction to operational business units.
  • Assist with operating and capital budgets including preparation, perform ongoing analysis and review, adjustments, forecasting and advising.
  • Review and evaluate financial processes and statements to ensure compliance with accounting standards, contractual, legislative obligations and corporate financial reporting requirements.
  • Assist with streamlining and developing new processes to address changes in the business needs.
  • Respond to a large volume and variety of corporate and client requests with competing deadlines.
  • Provide advice, guidance, training and coaching to other finance team members, to ensure smooth workflow and process.
  • Identify and escalate issues and risks developing recommendations for resolution.

Qualifications

  • A degree and a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation with at least 5 years of progressive financial experience.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and in data analytics.
  • Previous experience with Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS), Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations (ASNPO), Accounting Standards for Private Enterprise (ASPE), International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and the United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (U.S. GAAP) will also be considered assets.
  • Previous experience in an audit background will be considered an asset.
  • Previous experience with Financial Reporting, and with People Soft Financial Supply Chain Management (FSCM) and Human Capital Management (HCM) is considered an asset.
  • Success in this position requires strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, innovation and an ability challenge the status quo and think of new ways of doing things.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills accompanied by well-developed presentation and facilitation skills are essential.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high level of organization and attention to detail.

  • This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Days of Work: This position typically works a

5 day work week, with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.

Hours of work: Standard 35-hour work week
