Job Summary & Key Responsibilities

NURS5570.03 – Introduction to the Science and Practice of Knowledge Translation (Fall 2025)

The 3 credit-hour online course will introduce students to knowledge translation theory, practice, and research methods. The goal of the course is to highlight relationships and conflicts between different conceptual and theoretical approaches to knowledge translation.

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:

  • Explain terms and concepts related to knowledge translation.

  • Critically analyze various theories, frameworks and strategies underlying knowledge translation.

  • Describe factors influencing knowledge utilization in health care policy and practice.

  • Critically analyze a knowledge gap through substantive writing.

This appointment runs from September 1 – December 31, 2025, and the part-time academic instructor reports directly to the Associate Director, Graduate Studies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Development of teaching and learning activities related to course-specific topic

  • Review and revise all course materials and assessments to align with current educational pedagogies that include universal design of learning and active learning strategies.

  • Hold weekly virtual office hours and follow up with students as necessary

  • Liaise with the Associate Director, Graduate Studies for initial instruction, orientation and as needed.

  • Delivery, assessment, evaluation, and co-ordination of the course using the Brightspace Learning Management System

  • Develop and administer course evaluations, incl. assessments and exams

  • Submission of grades

Qualifications/Requirements of Position

Candidates must hold a graduate nursing degree (PhD preferred), or related field, plus have relevant teaching experience and in-depth knowledge in the subject area.

Experience with teaching in an online environment is an asset. All lecturers hired to teach online will be supported by Dalhousie to develop and deliver their courses from the Centre for Learning and Teaching (clt@dal.ca) and Academic Technology Services (support@dal.ca).
