Music Teacher– Junior School
Position: Junior School Music Teacher: Part-Time 50%
Reports to: Junior School Principal
Position Group: Faculty
Start Date: August 2025
Elmwood School is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Junior School Music Teacher to join our vibrant community of educators. This is a part-time position, beginning August 2025, that offers the opportunity to shape a joyful and rigorous music program for our youngest students in the Junior School.

Position Summary
The Junior School Music Teacher will be responsible for planning and delivering a rich, engaging, and developmentally appropriate music curriculum aligned with the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP). The successful candidate will inspire a love of music, nurture creativity and confidence, and contribute meaningfully to the cultural life of the school through performances, assemblies, and community events.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement a comprehensive music curriculum for students primarily in Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 2, grounded in the IB PYP framework
- Teach vocal and instrumental music, incorporating movement, composition, music literacy and drama
- Direct Junior School choirs and ensembles, preparing students for school concerts and musical theatre performances
- Foster an inclusive and supportive classroom environment where all students feel valued and capable
- Assess student progress and provide feedback that promotes growth and enthusiasm for learning
- Organize and lead performances, including seasonal concerts and grade-level musicals, supporting with piano accompaniment when necessary.
- Participate fully in the life of the school, including staff meetings, professional development, and co-curricular activities

Qualifications and Experience
- A Bachelor of Education degree, preferably with qualifications in music education
- Proficiency in piano
- Certification with the Ontario College of Teachers (or eligibility for certification)
- Experience teaching music (vocal, instrumental and musical theatre) at the elementary level, preferably in an IB or inquiry-based setting
- Strong musicianship skills
- Excellent classroom management and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to girls’ education and the values of an inclusive, student-centred learning community
