About the role

POSITION TITLE: Electrician

LOCATION: Remote Long Range Radar Sites located in Cape Parry, NT (PIN-MAIN); Shepard Bay (CAM-3)

SECURITY CLEARANCE: Secret

POSITION TYPE : Permanent, Unionized, 6x6 Rotation

REPORTS TO: Site Supervisor

About Us Nasittuq Corporation (from the Inuktitut word meaning “looking out from the highest point”) operates and maintains the North Warning System (NWS), a critical joint Canada-US radar network with 47 sites across Northern Canada.

Scope The Electrician is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting facility systems and electrical distribution networks. This includes ensuring operational efficiency, maintaining accurate documentation, and effectively utilizing the work order management system.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on electrical power transmission and distribution systems, including conductor splicing, terminating, and servicing switchgear, circuit breakers, power transformers, motors, batteries, and related components.
  • Conduct maintenance and repairs on electrical systems related to HVAC, refrigeration, food service, water supply, sewage disposal, fuel dispensing, building and airstrip lighting, and fire detection/alarm systems.
  • Support the power plant mechanics with major maintenance tasks on prime power plant generating and distribution systems.
  • Provide training to site mechanics on operating and maintaining electrical equipment.
  • Complete routine inspections of electrical equipment and systems, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Maintain operational reports and files related to the NWS work management system.
  • Perform other duties assigned by higher authority, including unplanned or transient tasks.
  • Work in remote Arctic conditions, with frequent travel between radar sites as required.

Who You Are

  • Certificates/Licenses: Qualified/licensed journeyman as an Industrial Electrician. A provincial/territorial certificate of qualification is required. A valid driver's license of required.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of hands-on journeyman experience in an industrial environment. Industrial mechanical maintenance experience, particularly in power plant operations, is an asset.
  • Skills: Strong problem-solving skills and ability to prioritize tasks. Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and communication skills. Physically fit, with the ability to climb towers and pass working-at-heights training. Familiarity with programmable logic controllers, diesel generators, switchgear, distribution systems, and safety regulations. Experience with fire detection and suppression systems is an asset.
  • Cross-Cultural Skills: Must be willing and able to work in a cross-cultural environment while supporting Nasittuq’s mission and commitment to Inuit employment.
