We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Full Time – Clinical Information Specialist to join our Surgery Information Systems team located in Surrey, BC.
The Clinical Information Specialist will support the perioperative network across 11 surgical sites. A key focus will be systems implementation support for nursing, including m-expanse and anesthesia information management system, both being implemented regionally. Work will include education support, DST’s, workflows and elbow to elbow staff support on the perioperative patient journey. Skills include communication, collaboration, independent needs assessment and establishing partnerships. Perioperative experience is preferred, with systems implementation and nursing education.

Detailed Overview
The Clinical Information Specialist performs project and day-to-day operational duties related to Fraser Health's (FH) clinical information systems by providing subject matter expertise, end-user education, training and/or support, and advanced troubleshooting and software maintenance for the department's clinical information system and/or applications used across FH.
Works collaboratively with team members and departments in promoting and adopting best practice models for service delivery. Participates in quality improvement activities.
Responsibilities
- Participates in planning, clinical application design, validation, testing, and staff education, training and/or support related to the implementation and software upgrade of the department's clinical information system or applications.
- Analyzes current and future clinical workflows to improve the efficiency of processes related to the utility of clinical information system/applications for the assigned department. Provides recommendations for system improvements.
- Consults and collaborates with clinicians, leaders, and physicians from clinical programs as well as interdisciplinary team members from designated programs and other services regarding additions, changes and deletions of data in Fraser Health's clinical information systems. Maintains data integrity by conducting system audits and data remediation as required.
- Participates in planning, designing, implementing and evaluating clinical information systems education and training sessions for direct care providers, allied health staff, and physicians.
- Conducts classroom education and one-on-one training sessions on the appropriate, safe and efficient use of clinical information system, including applicable policies and legislations related to electronic health records.
- Provides clinical information system end-user support on site, on the phone, through online bulletins/reminders, or through remote computer access.
- Collaborates with information management, information technology services and the vendor/s on resolving system or technical issues affecting the users of clinical information system and/or applications.
- Participates in quality improvement activities of designated portfolio by reviewing current practices, identifying potential problems, recommending changes, and providing input into the development of standards and practices.
- Keeps current of changes in clinical practices and determines related information needs and clinical information system changes.
- Participates on assigned internal and external committees as required.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
Current practicing registration as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the BCCNM may also be considered for Mental Health & Substance Use Services program area only.
Four (4) years recent, related acute and/or community nursing experience in the designated clinical area; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Courses in computer software technology or health informatics; experience in implementing projects in department settings and educating adults in group settings.
A valid BC Driver's Licence; access to a vehicle for business purposes.
Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated working knowledge of related electronic health information systems.
- Knowledge of the benefits and challenges of clinical information systems implementation to clinical practice and/or patient care environments.
- Demonstrated advanced skills in MS Office productivity software, including Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Ability to apply adult teaching and learning principles to deliver education or training in a group/classroom setting, including the development of training materials.
- Demonstrated professional communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to consult, plan, organize, implement and problem solve.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with others.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently using initiative and judgement with limited direction.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
