About the role

About the role:

This position is responsible for developing and executing strategies to prospect, acquire retain and grow membership for the affinity group initiatives. This work takes place through extensive research and preparation, taking place alongside meetings with current and potential donors to build strong relationships between affinity groups members and United Way. This position also represents United Way at community functions and recruits/manages volunteers to provide support to the initiative. This role will support Cabinet and/or Affinity Group Chairs/Co-Chairs within this portfolio and collaborate with workplace campaigns interested in and/or implementing an affinity initiative. This position reports to the Relationship Manager, Affinity Groups.

The Day to Day and beyond

  • Supports the development and implementation of strategies to attract, retain and grow Affinity Group Members within this portfolio.
  • Participates in meetings with potential and prospective Donors; this includes preparation and research on donor’s background and aligned United Way initiatives.
  • Collaborates with Customer Care colleagues to support and integrate Affinity Group component/offering into workplace campaigns and individual giving to increase engagement with existing and prospective donors.
  • Participates in donor stewardship, including planning and preparation for donor stewardship events related to learning, networking and volunteering, and compiling information on the programs or initiatives donors are interested in or have designated funding to.
  • Collaborates with Product Development and Marketing teams to develop marketing and communication materials designed to grow membership and develop and maintain Affinity Group initiatives.
  • Attends United Way/Affinity Group events, and workplace campaign events in support of United Way, this includes presenting to attendees and stakeholders.
  • Writes and/or reviews proposals for support, stewardship materials, other collateral materials.
  • Creates and maintains accurate and complete action notes and ensures they are entered in the CRM after donor meetings and interactions.
  • Uses metrics to develop new strategies, inform event planning, set goals, develop projections, troubleshoot issues, and adjust existing strategies as required.
  • Supports the work of Affinity Group Cabinet (s), including the development of Terms of Reference and Role Profiles annually, in collaboration with the Portfolio Manager, Volunteer Engagement.
  • Supports the development of annual Cabinet strategies and plans including preparation for meetings, ongoing recruitment and/or retention of members, and preparation for Cabinet Member meetings with current and potential donors.

You have solid knowledge of account management, fundraising sponsorship and relationship sales. You enjoy problem solving and are comfortable gathering, analyzing and interpreting and utilizing all kinds of information in decision making. You are known for demonstrating accountability and striving for operational excellence.

You are eager to make a difference and apply your expertise to this role. You have a customer service focus and can-do attitude, are outcomes driven, and approach situations with empathy and collaboration. Thinking creatively, staying organized, and building relationships is how you thrive. You love operating in a digital environment and are proficient with MS Office (we use Office 365 – MS Teams, SharePoint), and enjoy learning and using new technology.

Your background includes a post-secondary degree in business administration, social sciences or a related area plus a minimum of four (4) to five (5) years of related experience. A combination of education and lived experience will be considered. A valid driver’s license and vehicle are required as some travel will be involved within Edmonton and the surrounding area.
