POSITION OVERVIEW
We are a dynamic and growing general contractor located in the Fraser Valley seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Accountant to join our finance team. This role is ideal for someone with foundational accounting knowledge looking to gain hands-on experience in construction accounting. The Junior Accountant will support daily financial operations including general ledger entries, job costing, payables assistance, and financial reporting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Assist with daily accounting tasks, including data entry and maintenance of general ledger accounts
· Support accurate recording of job costs and ensure costs are allocated to appropriate cost codes and projects
· Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and vendor accounts
· Assist in preparing and processing accounts payable and receivable transactions
· Help prepare monthly financial statements and job cost reports
· Track project budgets and assist with variance analysis
· Maintain organized and audit-ready documentation in compliance with CRA and company policies
· Collaborate with project managers, project coordinators and site supervisors to ensure accurate cost tracking and financial reporting
· Support the finance team with year-end procedures and audit preparation
· Perform other duties as assigned by the Controller or VP of Finance
QUALIFICATIONS
· Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
· 1–3 years of related accounting experience (construction industry experience is an asset)
· Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and practices
· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software Spectrum
· Familiarity with job costing, holdbacks, and construction billing is an asset
· High level of accuracy and attention to detail
· Strong organizational and time management skills
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Willingness to learn and grow within a dynamic team environment
WORKING CONDITIONS
· Office-based role, Monday to Friday (40 hours/week)
· Occasional overtime may be required during month-end or peak project periods
