Position
Underground Tele-Remote Technician, Nunavut
Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the Supervisor, Underground Production, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.
Responsibilities
- Perform installation, maintenance, repair, and commissioning of underground tele-remote system.
- Provide advanced analytical and trouble shooting skills to identify and solve day-to-day issues with tele-remote system and mine electrical systems and equipment (Sandvik scoops, trucks, and jumbos, MacLean Bolters, etc.).
- Ensure optimal and consistent performance of the tele-remote system.
- Install, test, and commission instrumentation and control systems, following document control processes to ensure updates to electrical schematics are recorded accurately.
- Confirm all electrical work complies with Nunavut and federal regulations related to underground electrical work and assist in the development of the department’s procedures, SOPs, and safe work instructions (SWI).
- Participate in regular safety inspections, risk assessments, and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) to identify and mitigate potential risks involving underground mine electrical activities.
- Work with department leadership to execute preventative maintenance requirements.
- Assist in maintaining accurate and detailed records of all work performed, including installations, maintenance activities, repairs, and safety incidents.
Desired Competencies and Requirements
- Four (4) years of underground experience and minimum one (1) year of experience with tele-remote systems with knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and industry best practices;
- Further experience with transformers, switchgear, leaky feeder systems, and other related equipment/infrastructure in compliance with the CEC installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of underground LTE systems and fiber optic splicing and termination;
- Red Seal Journeyperson Electrician Trade Certification or equivalent Nunavut trades Certificate of Qualification (CoQ); and
- Familiarity with reading electrical schematics and prints is required, with preference given to those with a working knowledge of the installation and maintenance of electrical equipment in mining operations.
Compensation and Benefits
For informational purposes, the estimated annual earnings are $151,580.00 for 2184 scheduled hours (combined regular hourly rate of $55.00 and overtime rate of $82.50) in a work year.
