Hybrid Work:
This is a hybrid work position in Mississauga, Ontario and requires in-person collaboration at the WestJet Office (Sunwing Office), at (27 Fasken Dr, Etobicoke ON M9W1K6 , 3 days per week. This provides flexibility the remaining 40% of the work week. This hybrid work plan allows for critically important learning, collaboration and networking with our colleagues. Specific days in the office are agreed upon by the team

WestJet's Corporate Security Investigator will work alongside the senior leader in all aspects of investigations. Primary accountabilities will range from providing general security guidance, facilitating training and involve active participation in security investigation initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and or support confidential and privileged investigations related to guest, employee, contractor actions in relation to policy breaches or criminal acts including but not limited to Workplace Violence, Respect in the Workplace and unruly passenger behavior.

  • Provide proactive crime prevention strategies to employees and partners related to incident trending such as internal and external theft, fraud and other acts of unlawful behavior.

  • Assist in the development, implementation and communication of policy and procedure updates related to employee security roles and responsibilities.

  • Conduct and or support security threat and risk assessments related to WestJet business and recommend risk mitigation strategies to maximize safety of employees.

  • Participate in development and delivery of security training for all WestJet and contracted agency employees.

  • Assist IT Cybersecurity with investigations and support management of cyber security incidents.

  • Assist the Director or Program Manager, WestJet Security with responding to and managing security needs related to an Emergency Response incident.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with law enforcement, regulatory and security screening agencies to meet the business requirements and security needs of WestJet in conjunction with local, federal and international regulations.

  • As subject matter expert support criminal and civil law court orders according to Canadian and international regulations and Privacy regulations.

  • On a rotational basis take on the role of On Call threat and risk advisor to determine next steps to limit risk in relation to serious security incidents and events.

Experience and qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years’ directly related experience in Corporate Security or related role.

  • Recognized training, practical experience and a proven ability in: internal investigation techniques, conducting effective investigative interviews, preservation collection and presentation of evidence, physical security best practices in compliance with related regulations and court guidance.

  • Experience with and ability to interpret Canadian Criminal Code; Canadian Human Rights; Canada Labor Code; Criminal, Civil and Corporate Case law.

  • Minimum 1-2 years airline industry operational experience preferred.

  • Working knowledge of all areas of WestJet and or the airline industry is an asset.

  • Familiarity with Transport Canada and Canadian/International Air industry regulations.

  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to work independently on a team in a fast paced, dynamic and changing environment.

  • Proven ability to work under minimal supervision.

  • Excellent organizational skills achieved through flexibility, multitasking and time management.

  • Demonstrated strong communication skills and ability to deal with highly stressful and confidential situations using tact and diplomacy.

  • Demonstrated ability to accurately and completely document occurrences using a logical sequential format in a timely manner.

  • Able to obtain security clearance to hold a Transport Canada approved airport restricted area pass and provincial security investigator license.

  • Flexibility with travel in support of investigations to Calgary for an extended period of time for initial training and on an as needed basis after start up.
