Current Rate of Pay: $20.60
Current Shifts: Days, Nights, rotating, 12 hr shifts, including weekends
Position Summary:
The Clinical Extern (Student) is an unregulated care provider who provides support services to the nursing staff by assisting with patient care which may include patient hygiene, toileting, meal assistance, mobilization (including turning and positioning), call bell response and safety checks, documenting as required, patient assessment (pain, activity, fall risk) and taking vital signs,
This position may also include answering phones, stocking supplies, transporting patients, cleaning and maintaining equipment both in the department and hospital wide

Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Abilities:
Externs need to be students in the following types and stages of their education:
- Nursing students in any year of study in a College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) approved BScN or BN program and Practice Nursing program
- Occupational therapy students in any year of study in a training program accredited by the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT).
- Paramedic students in second year of an approved Paramedic Program
- Physiotherapy students in any year of study of a training program accredited by Physiotherapy Education Accreditation Canada (PEAC).
- Respiratory Therapy students in their 2nd or 3rd year of a training program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Respiratory Therapy Education, which is administered by the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists.
- Undergraduate medical students in their final year of a program of medical leading to the MD degree that has been accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS)
- Recent graduates from a program of medical education leading to the MD degree that has been accredited by the CACMS and who are awaiting the start of an accredited residency program
- BCLS certified
- Demonstrated knowledge of WHMIS, Emergency Codes and Privacy Legislation
- Completion or willingness to complete the Smart Moves Program
- Experience working in a busy hospital environment and with following universal precautions
- Students who have successfully completed a recent clinical (acute care) placement preferred
