About the role

The Restaurant Bartender is responsible for delivering a seamless and elevated bar experience, ensuring exceptional service and high-quality beverages in an upscale restaurant. They expertly craft cocktails, manage bar inventory, and uphold responsible service standards while maintaining efficiency in a fast-paced environment. With strong attention to detail and a guest-focused approach, they create a welcoming atmosphere while ensuring smooth bar operations. Their role also includes maintaining cleanliness, collaborating with the event team, and adapting to the unique needs of each event.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Set up the bar area according to instructions from restaurant management and company standards
  • Prepare the bar for service by ensuring bar inventory is stocked and replenished throughout the shift, noting any unavailable supplies and communicating this to the management.
  • Ensure bar equipment is in good working order and communicate any necessary repairs promptly.
  • Seek relevant information about the restaurant's offerings to accurately respond to guest inquiries and direct them accordingly.
  • Greet guests warmly upon arrival and assist them with their drink choices.
  • Consistently and timely prepare alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages according to specified recipes, using the correct glassware and garnishes and recipes.
  • Practice Smart Serve principles and check guests’ identification to confirm legal drinking age.
  • Obtain revenues by totaling charges; issuing bills; accepting payment; returning change or credit card and signature slip to patrons; submitting end-of-shift reporting with all revenues and receipts.
  • Earnestly accommodate special requests and accurately communicate guests’ needs to the culinary team.
  • Interact with guests at the bar, assess their needs and preferences, and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Take guests’ orders as needed, noting any special requests or dietary restrictions, and communicate guests’ needs to the kitchen and culinary team.
  • Learn and master the menu, including ingredients, preparation methods, and presentation, to confidently answer guests' questions and make recommendations.
  • Suggest additional items such as appetizers, desserts, and beverages to enhance the dining experience and increase sales.
  • Identify repeat guests and customize their experience based on their preferences.
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency while remaining poised during peak periods and seek out additional tasks during slower periods, such as polishing glassware and keeping the bar area stocked and clean.
  • Maintain cleanliness of all bar areas, including fridges, counters, and ice wells. Wash and polish glassware as necessary.
  • Close the bar appropriately at the end of the shift, ensuring all products are stored correctly and all closing checklists are completed. Report any missing equipment or signage promptly to leave the bar fully stocked for the next shift.
  • Willingly accept additional tasks as required for the effective functioning of the work unit.
  • Demonstrate respect and courtesy to all individuals encountered on the job, including management, fellow team members, and guests.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to further developing skills and knowledge.
  • Always act with integrity and honesty, taking responsibility for decisions and actions.
