The Role

We are looking for an Instrumentation Technician to support our Aerospace Research Centre. The Instrumentation Technician would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

This role involves working with electrical systems that are crucial for our projects. You'll be responsible for understanding, updating, and redrawing electrical drawings to make sure they're accurate and meet our high standards. You'll also help keep our inventory of electrical parts organized and ensure we have all the necessary documentation. This helps our engineering team work smoothly and efficiently.

You will be responsible for maintaining the Instrumental Development Group “IDG” equipment room, making sure it's neat and that everything is labeled correctly. Experience with electronic components and skills in soldering is required, as this is important for building and fixing our systems. Additionally, you'll review LabView functions documentation to help develop automated testing and data collection systems. This role is key to supporting our mission to innovate and improve aerospace technology.

Education

Technical or technology college diploma in a mechanical, electrical, electronics, instrumentation program or other discipline related to the position.

An equivalent combination of work-related experience, training, and education may also be considered.

Experience

  • Experience using electrical components;
  • Experience interpreting electrical drawings;
  • Experience doing soldering work in an industrial environment;
  • Experience in organizing and maintaining an inventory of electrical parts, including labeling systems and storage solutions to maintain order and efficiency; and
  • Experience using CAD and LabView software or similar tools for electrical design.

For a Reliability Status, verification of background information over a period of 5 years is required.

  • Must be able to possess and retain the physical capabilities required for the position, including but not limited to: lifting, moving, or carrying heavy and bulky objects; crouching, bending, and twisting; climbing stairs and ladders; working in dusty environments with irritating chemicals and disagreeable odours; ability to see and manual dexterity for soldering tasks.

Technical Competencies

  • Ability to understand, update and create accurate electrical drawings;
  • Ability to obtain and manage documentation associated with electrical components;
  • Demonstrated skills in soldering electrical components;
  • Knowledge of various electronic components and their applications, including troubleshooting; and
  • Knowledge of safety protocols related to handling electrical components and working in a laboratory environment.

Compensation

From $55,777 to $78,873 per annum.
