Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer – Piping Systems (Nuclear Industry)
Location: Toronto, Ontario (Onsite – Nuclear Facility)
Seniority Level: Senior (7+ years)
Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer with strong experience in piping systems to join a multidisciplinary engineering team supporting complex infrastructure renewal projects within a nuclear facility.
While the mechanical aspects of pipe replacement may appear straightforward, the engineering process is governed by rigorous standards and procedural controls due to the nuclear environment. The successful candidate will lead or support engineering assessments, design packages, and installation oversight, ensuring full compliance with regulatory and quality assurance requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the engineering assessment and replacement design of piping systems inside a nuclear plant.
- Evaluate existing systems, perform condition assessments, and develop engineered solutions for degraded pipe infrastructure.
- Prepare and review detailed engineering packages, including calculations, drawings, and specifications, in compliance with nuclear regulatory codes.
- Coordinate with project managers, discipline engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure safe and efficient execution of piping replacement projects.
- Provide technical oversight during fabrication and installation phases, including inspection, testing, and documentation review.
- Ensure all work is compliant with relevant codes and standards such as ASME B31.1, CSA N285.0, and/or ASME B31.3.
- Participate in design reviews, hazard assessments, and quality assurance activities.
- Support client interfacing and reporting, contributing to a highly collaborative team environment.
Qualifications & Experience:
Must-Have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with a valid P.Eng. license in Ontario.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in mechanical and piping engineering, preferably within regulated industries.
- Strong knowledge of piping codes including ASME B31.1 , CSA N285.0 (nuclear), and ASME B31.3 (oil & gas).
- Experience with piping system evaluations, replacements, and upgrades in aging infrastructure.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a cross-functional engineering team.
Nice to Have:
- Previous experience working in a nuclear facility or with nuclear utilities.
- Familiarity with nuclear safety and quality assurance protocols.
Work Environment:
This role is primarily onsite at a nuclear facility and will involve working in an operational plant environment with strict safety and regulatory protocols.
Note: Due to the nature of the work, eligibility for security clearance is required.
