Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Performing Arts, the Band Director, Stampede Showband will have the opportunity to be a part of a team that develops youth as world-class artists, performers, and community-minded citizens. This position offers the opportunity to be part of a one-of-a-kind organization with a strong history and culture. The Band Director, Stampede Showband will work with the Operations Coordinator, Creative Director, band staff, designers, parents, members, volunteers, and community partners, to lead and direct the vision and operation of the Calgary Stampede Showband. This is a leadership role, with both strategic and operational responsibilities.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
Arts Program Management
- Effectively manage the business and build the teams of our high-performance marching arts program, including translating strategy into action across large teams
- Lead and collaborate with the Operations Coordinator and Creative Director to ensure the successful operational execution of all rehearsals, performances, and events, including Stampede Week, year-round community performances and touring activities.
- Budget development and management to ensure the best use of resources to support effective program delivery, impact, sustainability, and strategic growth
Leadership
- Foster a purpose-driven culture of excellence and commitment to youth and community impact, through a positive and strong presence as a leader to staff, students, and volunteers
- Provide direction and strategic leadership to both the Operations Coordinator, Creative Director, band staff, contractors, and volunteers to deliver programs in alignment with the Calgary Stampede Foundation’s strategic plan.
- Lead the Operations Coordinator and Creative Director to guide, support, and mentor instructional staff and members towards personal and ensemble excellence.
Stakeholder and Community Relationships
- Build and foster effective relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholder groups in complex organizational environments to advance program objectives
- Act as a public and positive ambassador for the Calgary Stampede and Stampede Foundation within the Calgary community and abroad.
- Develop and lead all recruitment, marketing, and partnership strategies to increase ensure program sustainability and increase community awareness
Impact for Youth
- Lead the Showband team to create an environment for youth to grow and thrive, fostering a culture of commitment to safety, wellbeing, belonging, development, and excellence
- Support the overall success of all CSF youth programs including safety and wellness practices, educational direction, strategic development, and community engagement.
- Work with the Showband team to effectively and positively coach youth towards high levels of achievement in individual and group performance
Vision for Excellence
- Capture, create, and share a clear vision for excellence in competitive marching arts and commercial productions, and engage and mobilize the team to bring the vision to fruition.
- Develop and implement strategies to raise the international program achievement and standing, and enhance program impact on youth and community
- Responsible for the overall educational and performance direction of the Showband, and advancement of that vision and direction
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be proactive, optimistic and have worked in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where they have experience delivering on multiple priorities and will hold the following qualifications:
- Leadership and management experience (5+ years)
- Experience as a youth educator, with a focus on safety & wellness, performance excellence and youth development (5+ years)
- Experience planning and executing travel and tours for youth performing arts ensembles
- Proficiency in language, knowledge, and trends across musical and visual performing arts
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and time management skills
- Knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Post-secondary education or related experience in Business, Administration, Event Management, Education, or related field is considered an asset
