About the role

Job Summary - Relief Caretaker
The Relief Caretaker is responsible for monitoring the building cleanliness and security at 1010 Sinclair Street as well as allowing entry to apartments when requested to accommodate the needs of tenants and attendant staff. Monitoring safety of the building grounds is an important aspect of the job also. The Relief Caretaker is also responsible for responding to weekend and after-hours building emergencies by notifying the designated service people or authorities to attend to the problem.

Duties

  • Ensure entry to apartments as requested to accommodate needs of staff and tenants.
  • Ensure that the cleanliness of the building and grounds is maintained in an acceptable manner, this entails washing floors when required, emptying garbage cans when full, removing debris from entries and common areas, and ensuring public washrooms and staff washrooms are stocked and cleaned. Monitoring the Garbage Room and emptying cans as needed.
  • Remove snow during winter months, keeping exits from building open
  • Cutting grass and maintaining grounds as needed.
  • Do minor repairs such as unplugging toilets and drains. Ordering service personnel for the repairs to building system components such as doors, windows, water leaks, and heating or cooling problems with approval from the Manager of Building Services.
  • Monitor rental facilities and functions that occur on evenings and weekends.
  • Monitor the building parking lot facilities for parking infractions and towing of vehicles when required.
  • Secure the building at night by means of locking laundry facilities, exits, and common areas
  • Respond to tenant complaints or concerns and take appropriate action when required.
  • Live-in-Caretaker of 1010 Sinclair Street in Winnipeg, Manitoba, rental subsidy provided.
  • Respond to the Manager of Building Services for scheduling and other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Works with a minimum of supervision.
  • Communicates well with staff, tenants, and trades.
  • Shows initiative in taking on new challenges to support the overall objectives of Ten Ten Sinclair Housing Inc.
  • Maintains confidentiality as per the Personal Health Information Act.
  • Demonstrates effort to improve skills.
  • Maintains excellent work habits and attendance record.
  • Performs responsibilities in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
  • Ability to perform manual labor such as snow shoveling and grass cutting.

Experience

  • Knowledge of cleaning products to maintain the building.
  • Ability to work shift work.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Knowledge of building systems.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Must complete and have a clean criminal record check. (max. 6 months old)
  • Prior experience as a building caretaker would be a definite asset.
  • Cleaning: 1 year (preferred)

Compensation:

  • Rental Coverage of $190/monthly
  • Pay: Paid by blocks of time worked during shift – this may vary

Schedule:

  • 8 blocks every second weekend. Occasional coverage for full-time caretaker that includes evening shift, night shift, and weekends as needed
