About the role

Your Opportunity:

Preadmission Clinic, Day/Same Day Surgery, Ophthalmology Day Surgery, and Cataract Surgery are a fast-paced dynamic units providing care to a wide variety of nursing services. A Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive patient and family care in accordance with RAH and AHS policy and procedures. Responsible for the pre- and post-surgical patients received from the operating room. Management of up to 50-100 patients daily. Preadmission Clinic patients seen in clinic for pre-operative assessments and preparation for planned surgical procedures. Successful candidates will be expected to participate in quality improvement initiatives at the front line, supporting and maintaining high quality patient care strategies within the Surgery program. Description:

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program.

Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and priority setting skills required. Proven reliability required. Basic computer skills are required. Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment required. Experience with acute surgical patients in an acute care setting minimum 2 years required. Experience working to full scope of practice required. Intravenous Certificates are required. Ability to work in a physically demanding environment: Considerable standing/walking; lifting, positioning, pushing and/or transferring patients; considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching (continuously for 5.5 - 7 hours per shift). Walking (continuously for 5.5 - 7 hours per shifts) and lifting up to fifty pounds. Pushing beds/stretchers multiple times for prolonged distance between units. Able to work staggered shifts. Basic computer skills are necessary. Recent surgical experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Ophthalmology patients preferred. Preference will be given to experience in an ambulatory Preadmission clinic setting and connect care experience.
