About the role

Overview:

We are looking for a reliable and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to manage and oversee the financial transactions and records for our company. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial information, ensuring compliance with Canadian tax regulations, and helping the organization achieve its financial goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Recordkeeping:
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR).
  • Process invoices, receipts, and payments in a timely manner.
  • Record and categorize all financial transactions in the general ledger.
  • Reconcile bank and credit card statements regularly.
  • Payroll Management:
  • Process employee payroll accurately and on time, ensuring compliance with relevant federal and provincial regulations.
  • Calculate deductions, benefits, and tax contributions, and remit to the appropriate authorities.
  • Maintain employee payroll records.
  • GST/HST & Tax Compliance:
  • Prepare and file Goods and Services Tax (GST) or Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) returns.
  • Assist in year-end tax preparation and support the tax filing process, working closely with accountants or auditors.
  • Stay up to date with Canadian tax regulations and ensure the business complies with all necessary filings.
  • Financial Reporting:
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports (balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement).
  • Provide insights and analysis on the financial health of the business.
  • Assist with budget preparation and financial forecasting.
  • Accounts Reconciliation:
  • Reconcile all accounts, ensuring that financial discrepancies are identified and addressed promptly.
  • Manage petty cash and ensure proper accounting for all transactions.
  • Vendor & Client Management:
  • Coordinate with vendors and clients regarding payments, invoices, and discrepancies.
  • Maintain records of outstanding accounts and follow up on overdue payments.
  • General Administration:
  • Maintain and organize financial documents, ensuring easy retrieval and compliance with legal requirements.
  • Provide support during audits or financial reviews.
  • Collaborate with the management team to provide financial insights and support business decision-making.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Bookkeeping or accounting certification (e.g., CPA, CMA, or equivalent) is preferred but not required.
  • Experience:
  • Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or in a similar role (1-3 years minimum).
  • Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, Sage) is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Canadian tax laws, including GST/HST, payroll, and corporate income tax regulations.
  • Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
  • Other Requirements:
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment and managing multiple tasks at once.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $50,000.00-$70,000.00 per year

Expected hours: 20 per week
