Position Overview
Calian Health is looking for an Undersea Medicine Physician Specialist to support the Canadian Armed Forces either on-site at their Toronto outpatient clinic or remotely. Working as part of a specialized team, the physician will provide expert consultation to military primary care doctors and assess the health of CAF members, especially those involved in diving operations.
This role involves working in demanding environments, including extended time in hyperbaric chambers. Responsibilities also include advising on medical policies, conducting research, supporting personnel selection and fitness evaluations, and teaching Undersea Medicine courses.
Responsibilities
- Conduct and review diving-related medical assessments, consultations, and file documentation.
- Perform and assess initial and periodic diver medical exams per CF Health Services guidelines.
- Advise the Aerospace and Undersea Medical Board (AUMB) on diver medical fitness.
- Support and consult with primary care physicians involved in dive medicine.
- Maintain occupational health records using military health systems.
- Contribute to policy development for dive medical fitness, diagnostics, and treatment.
- Participate in AUMB and related committees (may involve travel).
- Provide medical screening and emergency response for human subject research and hyperbaric chamber operations.
- Deliver lectures and training at the School of Operational Medicine (Dive Medicine Basic and Advanced, Medical Officer Courses).
- Conduct and support research in diving and aerospace medicine, including protocol development, ethics submissions, data analysis, and report writing.
Qualifications
Licensed to practice medicine in the province/territory of employment.
Plus one of the following:
- Hold a recognized Diploma or Fellowship in Hyperbaric/Undersea Medicine (Canada, US, UK, NZ, Australia), or
- At least 5 of the last 10 years of relevant experience in diving/undersea medicine (policy, training, research, or clinical care).
Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (Heart and Stroke Foundation standard).
Completed or willing/able to complete the Canadian Forces Advanced Diving Medicine Officer course.

- You will be able to obtain a Government Security Clearance at the Reliability level
