Position Overview
Provide a full range of legal services in relation to real estate law matters, including drafting standard and complex agreements relating to residential, commercial, and industrial land matters (such as reciprocal easements and land exchanges, and handles real estate transactions for the Corporation, including preparation and review of agreements of purchase and sale, leases, licenses and other land related agreements.
Qualifications and Experience
• Successful completion of a University Degree in Law (L.L.B) or Juris Doctor Degree (J.D.)
• Minimum of two (2) years of progressive law experience in real estate law
• Member of the Law Society of Ontario in good standing.
• Exceptional organizational, facilitation, and interpersonal skills coupled with the ability to multi-task effectively while contending with conflicting demands and timelines.
• Reviews and drafts contracts and represents the City in negotiations on various real estate related agreements as applicable.
• Works closely with the Real Estate Department in implementing the City’s real estate strategies.
• Demonstrated political acumen and ability to negotiate, facilitate, mediate and present information to a varied audience.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, research and decision-making skills coupled with exceptional written and oral communication skills.
• Well-developed ability to interpret, anticipate and convey highly complex, technical and abstract information.
• Knowledge of, and demonstrated ability in, the city’s core competencies and relevant functional competencies.
• Possesses a valid Ontario ‘G’ Driver’s License in good standing, with access to a reliable vehicle for corporate use.
• Ability to work outside normal business hours, as required.
• Knowledge of MS Office and common software programs to produce accessible documents, presentations and materials in compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) is a requirement of the job.
