WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
The Housekeeping/Linen department at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital plays a critical role within the hospital as it impacts the lives of our patients, visitors and staff and ignites the warmth of human connection. Housekeeping employees come to work each day prepared to adapt to their responsibilities, and they understand others are relying on them to do extraordinary work that provides an all-important backdrop for patient care.

The team works closely with the Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) and follows Provincial Infectious Disease Advisory Committee (PIDAC) Standards for Environmental Cleaning and patient care teams to clean and disinfect clinical and non-clinical areas, including patient care rooms, offices, washrooms and common areas. They are responsible for ensuring the hospital environment is clean and disinfected. This includes every space, from elevators, patient rooms, emergency, and operating rooms to waiting, administrative, and lobby areas. The Cleaner will perform assigned duties in accordance with the departmental standards of practice, policies and procedures and may be assigned to any area of the Hospital as may be required.

WHAT YOU MUST HAVE:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent required

  • Computer skills include the regular use of Outlook order entry software, Risk Monitor Pro, Internet/Intranet navigation including STEGHnet, and basic word processing

  • Working knowledge of WHMIS, Infection Control, Health and Safety, Patient Centered Care and Waste Management Protocols

  • Team and customer focused with the ability to communicate respectfully in a pleasant, flexible and professional manner with all patients, families, staff and volunteers

  • Ability to adapt to changes in assignments throughout a shift, follow instructions and demonstrate professional conduct

  • Open to change and proactive towards departmental initiatives

  • Ability to work alone, prioritize and take initiative – self-motivated

  • Ability to be on feet for up to 4 hours at time, with constant walking, reaching, bending, grasping, repetitive motions, pushing, pulling and lifting to 10 kgs regularly

  • Excellent attendance record in accordance with STEGH’s Attendance Support Program required

  • Demonstrated acceptable performance record in alignment with STEGH's Mission, Vision, Values and Code of Conduct

WHAT WE PREFER YOU TO HAVE:

  • Preference will be given to those with a minimum of one (1) year of housekeeping experience, preferably in Hospital cleaning procedures and methods, with an understanding of infectious diseases and their transfers.

  • Preference will be given to those who have completed Safe Management training

  • Experience with Housekeeping equipment (eg. Rotary, Burnisher, Shower Scrubber, Auto scrubber, Carpet/Upholstery extractor, wet vacuum, and other floor maintenance equipment, etc.)

  • Experience with floor finishing procedures (eg. Floor stripping, wax, diamond pads, crystallizer, carper extraction, buffing stray, etc.

HOURS:

The successful candidate must be available to work all tours applicable to the department. In addition, this position must be flexible to occasional changes in hours when required to meet the operational needs of the department.
