Location: 128a Sterling Road, Unit 202, Toronto, ON, and 245 Fairview Mall Drive, Unit 201, North York, ON, and with the possibility of working at any of our other locations.

Position Summary
The Employment Counselor is the first point of contact for all ALP job seekers; their job is to welcome program participants and convey a friendly, professional, knowledgeable and efficient atmosphere. Their role is as the ‘anchor’ to the job search/case management process and assess client needs. This position requires a responsive career coach who is client focused and knowledgeable about the Skills Development Fund initiative, and that is also able to identify the different barriers to employment that newcomer women to Canada face. This role is accountable and responsible for program-specific targets. You are collaborative, take initiative, and work within the policies and are accountable and responsible for specific targets. You are a lifelong learner, who is passionate about connecting marginalized community members to employment opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct eligibility and suitability assessments to determine if the ALP is the most beneficial career development path for client
- Ensuring all intake paperwork and documentation is complete and filed correctly
- Develop individualized action plans for job seekers
- Deliver end-to-end employment services, including job readiness workshops, one-on-one coaching, and referrals to community resources and training programs.
- Manage a caseload of approximately 150 clients using CRM software and Case management systems, maintaining accurate records of client progress, referrals, and outcomes.
- Provide comprehensive case management, including intake, assessment, and the development of personalized employment plans.
- Support clients in identifying their strengths, addressing employment barriers, and building action plans for job readiness and retention.
- Conduct follow-ups to ensure client progress and provide additional support as needed.
- Provide advocacy and support for clients in areas of employment, skills training, social assistance, and equitable access to services.
- Meet monthly/yearly performance requirements and maintain professional and effective information tracking systems on all activities performed
- Conduct needs assessments and career testing in individual and/or group settings.
- Meet individual, organizational and funder program goals/targets, service utilization targets, and monthly statistical requirements.
- Maintain professional and effective updated information tracking systems on all activities performed.
- Make timely and appropriate referrals to Job Developers that are consistent with clients’ service plan on career path and employment.
- Build and maintain relationships with private and public sector employers to connect clients with sustainable job opportunities.
- Maintain strong internal and external partner relationships to facilitate referrals and holistic support.
- Support in hosting community and employer events, job fairs, networking opportunities, educational workshops.
- Proactively identify and research sector-specific opportunities for clients.
- Attend Job Fairs and other employer-related networking opportunities
- Host community and employer events
- Research and identify employers and sector opportunities on behalf of clients
- Promote NEW and the ALP to newcomer women, job seekers, agencies, and Businesses/employers in order to increase awareness of the program, generate new clients, business opportunities and to remain current on employment resources and trends.
- Provide coverage as needed and respond to other duties as required, to ensure smooth and seamless service to clients.
Minimum Requirements:
- Post-secondary degree or equivalent in Career and Work Counselling/Adult Education or a relevant field and/or 5 years directly related work experience
- Minimum 3 years of Case management experience required
- Experience coaching and mentoring clients, working with individuals with complex barriers and inclusion groups, and building partnerships with employers, community agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Knowledge of the local labour market, community resources and government assistance programs
- Knowledge of job search techniques, career development tools and issues relating to unemployment
- Strong detail literacy, including social media, CRM and Microsoft Office Suite
- Adherence to confidentiality and professional codes of conduct
- Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP) designation is considered an asset
- Experience with provincial government and other online tools such as ICM, CaMS and online employment services
