THE OPPORTUNITY
Ram Iron & Metal is looking for a talented and driven Scale Attendant to join our Team. The Scale House Attendant, under the direction of the General Manager will be responsible for managing our inbound and outbound traffic by conducting the reading of weights and inputting the necessary data into our scaling system. You will need to provide clear directions to our operations team, truck drivers and other guests and perform additional administration duties to support our daily operations including answering calls, responding to emails, and preparing various documents.

OVERVIEW
The successful candidate must be comfortable operating our scales to weigh incoming and outgoing vehicles for either delivery or pickup of scrap materials. The Scale Attendant is expected to have the ability to learn and assist in several aspects of our daily operations such as conducting readings of our incoming and outgoing truck weights, performing inspections of industrial and radiation detectors, greet our customers, drivers or contractors, process scale payments and constantly maintain radio contact with our yard metal inspectors and operations team.
RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITES
- Operate scales to weigh incoming and outgoing vehicles for either delivery or pickup of scrap materials.
- Must regularly communicate with other scale operators and operations team to assist with vehicle yard traffic.
- Work with other staff members as needed via, phone, email, in-person, and/or radio communications.
- Friendly greeting of customers and truck drivers and provide tickets or any other documentation require for logs.
- Performing pre-start inspections of industrial and radiation detectors.
- Provide clear directions to truck drivers and other guests.
- Printing and distributing scale tickets as required.
- Process scale payments.
- Issue cash payments for customers that require immediate payment.
- Deal with difficult customer situations effectively and professionally.
- Manage the phones and emails assisting with customer inquiries.
- Verify receipts of supplies against packing slips and purchase orders.
- Manage work area by keeping all paperwork processed and neatly files as well as maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of scale house.
- Daily cash reconciliation, review ticket purchases and complete daily cash count.
- Other duties as required, not limited to responsibilities listed above.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma (SSGD) or equivalent is required.
- Prior experience working in a reception, office administration, customer service or dispatching is an asset.
- Knowledge of metal is an asset.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and outlook is required.
- Ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate effectively in English.
- Ability to perform mathematic functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
- Self-reliant with the ability to follow through on assignments.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The working environment is busy and fast paced, with regular and ongoing interactions with colleagues, management, and the public at large. There may be frequent interruptions, and from time to time be noisy. The employee must have knowledge of how to manage their own personal safety under these conditions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to be able to lift up to and including 30lbs, sit and/or stand for extended periods of time and reach with arms/hands. Walking, walking up/down stairs, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and moving items is occasionally required.
