The Town of New Tecumseth is looking for individuals who can skate and would like to monitor public skating and other recreation programs to educate and enforce rules to ensure safety.

Under the guidance and direction of the Supervisor, Recreation Programs, Recreation Program and Skate Monitor’s play a crucial role in ensuring a safe and enjoyable drop-in skate, sport, or social program experience for residents. Recreation program and skate monitors are responsible for maintaining safety by enforcing rules and preventing accidents, providing and administering first-aid treatment when necessary, upholding public order and respect within indoor and outdoor active program spaces, and verifying participant registration and payment for program access.

How you contribute to the organization:

  • Report ready to work 15 minutes before the scheduled program time.
  • Educate and assist patrons by providing information on skating and recreation program offerings, registration, rules and expectations.
  • Monitor recreation programs across drop-in skate, sport and social categories.
  • Keep physically fit, alert, and ready to meet any emergency.
  • Set up and take down relevant program resources and equipment according to the program plan and assigned task list.
  • Check-in patrons using XLOR software and handheld electronic devices.
  • Ensure safety and order during drop-in program times, maintaining professionalism and positively representing the Town of New Tecumseth.
  • Always maintain good customer service.
  • Remain on duty until the program ends, and all patrons have exited the program environment.
  • Attend all designated corporate, customer service and position specific training required.

What you bring to the team:

  • Standard First Aid with CPR level C is required.
  • Must be at least 14 years old.
  • At a minimum, attending high school.
  • High-Five Principles of Healthy Development is preferred.
  • Is a strong skater: skating independently, starting and stopping as needed, or comfortable wearing ice-safe shoes to monitor and attend to patrons on the ice.
  • Some knowledge of sport, including basic rules of popular sport categories, fair play and a strong dedication to sportsmanship.
  • 1-2 years' experience in Customer Service within a public setting is considered an asset.
  • Basic experience using computers, tablets, and mobile devices.
  • Ability to provide your own pair of ice skates in good condition, along with a CSA approved helmet intended for ice activities e.g. skating or hockey.
  • Ability to engage participants and provide a safe and fun experience.

Wage: $17.63 – 18.51, plus 4% vacation pay and optional enrolment in OMERS pension plan
Hours: Up to 15 hours per week as required. This position is expected to work during the daytime, evenings, weekends, and holiday hours as scheduled. Schedules may vary from month to month.
Location: Will vary - Tottenham Community and Fitness Centre, New Tecumseth Recreation Centre, Alliston Memorial Arena, Beeton Memorial Arena
Start Date: August 18, 2025
