About the role

Your Opportunity:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse to join the Sturgeon Community Hospital Inservice Education team as a Clinical Nurse Educator in the Emergency Department. The primary role of the Clinical Nurse Educator – Emergency is to provide and facilitate continuing education, professional development, and evaluation of clinical skills for Emergency nursing staff based on adult education principles to ensure that clinical competencies and organizational standards/practices are maintained. Reporting to the Patient Care Manager the incumbent works collaboratively with other site Clinical Nurse Educators, the Emergency Department CNE and the Sturgeon Community Hospital management team to ensure best nursing practice and provision of quality care. Other duties include promoting the clinical competence of staff through policy, procedures, protocols, and technology. The ability to effectively influence team culture is essential in this position. The successful incumbent will be required to provide daily support to the multidisciplinary staff, you may potentially be on your feet for an extended period of time (both walking and standing), and must be able to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning of patients. You will also be required to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment.

Description:

As an Instructor, you will be an expert practitioner and key educator. You will take a leadership role in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of education for nursing staff including orientation, compulsory and continuing education, and clinical development. You will collaborate with management and internal partners to promote standards of clinical, educational and evidence informed practice. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program.

Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree in Nursing. Minimum of 5 years current nursing experience in an Emergency Department. 2 years of adult educator/instructor experience including the development of educational materials. Must possess excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills, as well as in-depth knowledge of the nursing process, best nursing and evidence-based practice. Must be highly motivated, self-directed, and flexible with working hours to meet the educational needs of the department. Must have the ability to assist with mobilization, turning, positioning and transfer of patients. You will also be required to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment. Current working knowledge of Connect Care.

Preferred Qualifications:

Post graduate studies or certification in adult education, critical care nursing or emergency care would be an asset. Heart and Stroke Foundation BLS, ACLS, PALS or TNCC instructor level preferred.
