ABOUT THE ROLE
SOCAN is looking for detail-oriented, results-focused and proactive individual to join the Royalty Operations and Services teams. The role of Distribution Administrator is responsible for research, data entry and validation activities that support one of several operational teams.
Identification – manual matching of music usage by radio, television and streaming services to SOCAN’s catalog of musical works (songs) and audio-visual cue sheets
Works Maintenance & Agreements – updating music works or their related agreements to ensure proper royalty distributions
Audio-Visual Maintenance – entering and updating cue sheets
Concerts – entering set lists and matching to SOCAN’s catalog
Queries – research member (domestic & international) queries and provide resolution
The goals of all activities assigned are to maximize royalty distributions and ensure the accuracy of SOCAN’s distribution.
WHAT YOU’LL DO / KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Management of SOCAN catalog of musical works and audio-visual cue sheets and related music publishing agreements, including the addition of new and/or updating of existing
Research of the musical work or audio-visual cue sheet and associated shareholders
Resolution of conflicting claims on a musical work or audio-visual cue sheet by coordinating with Membership for member feedback
Review and update of agreements that direct royalty collection
Merge potential duplicate works into a single payable musical work
Matching of music usage reports from radio, television and streaming services to SOCAN catalog
Reviewing possible match results and research of musical work or audio-visual cue sheet to ensure valid match to reported music use
Execute match of musical work or audio visual cue sheet to music usage reported or claimed by members based on Unidentified Performances List posted for member review online
Resolve member queries and/or member-generated activities (domestic and international)
Research queries submitted by Membership on behalf of members that cover many different areas including changes to catalogs and member agreements and potential missing royalties
Provide updates to Membership on investigations for communication to members
Pursue member-claimed music use with foreign societies
The goals of all activities assigned are to maximize royalty distributions and ensure the accuracy of SOCAN’s distribution
WHAT YOU WILL BRING / QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Computer literacy required, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically MS Excel
Bilingual in French and English is a strong asset, but is not required
Music industry knowledge is an asset, but is not required
Excellent research skills
Strong time management skills to meet deadlines and shifting priorities
Detail oriented and thorough
