Job Overview:
Responsible assisting with the implementation of automation & controls systems for capital projects through helping to define the system standards, review vendor proposals, and manage 3rd party integration partners. The successful candidate will also back-up the Engineering Controls Technician should emergency support be required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, plan and execute capital projects through the entire project lifecycle (scoping, design, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning)
- Contribute to the development of technology roadmaps for process and packaging equipment, including the standardization of equipment solutions for common applications
- Perform security and maintenance for manufacturing systems data, manufacturing systems administration and systems change control processes and documentation
- Back-up the Engineering Controls Technician to provide technical support to the Operations team post-equipment installation
- May include troubleshooting communication issues between field devices, communication networks, PLC and SCADA systems
- Troubleshooting process line issues
- Assist in equipment/machine commissioning and start-up activities
- Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) at OEM facilities and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) at Give & Go facilities
- Implement PLC/ SCADA Programming; review, analyze and revise existing programs as required
- Prepare drawings and specifications, process control narratives, instrument lists, loop diagrams and I/O lists
- Contribute to the definition, implementation and maintenance of standards for the process & control systems across all Give & Go manufacturing facilities
- Ensure all equipment and work performed by or on behalf of the company complies with all governing laws, practices, codes, and regulations
The Recipe for Success:
- Completion of university degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Industrial Automation, or a related field
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in Controls automation, preferably in a bakery or food manufacturing
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills to build relationships and work with people
- PLC / VFDs / HMI Programming, industrial networks configuration/troubleshooting, MySQL, MSSQL and AutoCAD skills are necessary
- Robot Programming: Fanuc, ABB would be an asset
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical periodicals, procedures, electrical schematics, process & instrumentation drawings, control panel drawings, and government regulations
- Strong analytical skills including troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills to effectively lead teams to quickly identify issues, causes and sustainable corrective actions
- Experience and knowledge in manufacturing, construction, and building operations
- Ability to facilitate change and promote the sharing of ideas
- Must have strong computer (MS Office) and project management skills
- Ability to handle a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and demands
