Department Information

The Department of Infrastructure (INF) provides high quality services to the public and Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) departments, boards and agencies including the planning, design, construction, acquisition, operation and maintenance of public transportation infrastructure and the buildings, works and equipment required for the GNWT to deliver its programs and services. INF makes essential petroleum products available for sale to the public where these products are not provided by the private sector, and promotes the development and increased use of energy efficient technologies. INF also regulates electrical and mechanical safety services and licenses individuals and vehicles operating in the territory.

Job Information

Located at the Inuvik Regional Repair Facility and reporting to the Regional Facilities Manager, the Apprentice Automotive Technician/Mechanic assists in implementing a planned services, maintenance and repair program for all light equipment utilized in the Beaufort Delta Region to provide maximum equipment availability, operating at the optimum capability.

This position assists the Automotive Mechanic daily; maintains control of shop supplies and maintains a clean and safe working environment in the Regional Repair Facility.

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:

A grade 12 education with six months of relevant experience; and meet the Mandatory Entrance Requirements: Trades Entrance Requirements | Education, Culture and Employment

  • Passing the trades entrance exam with a mark of 70% or higher.
  • Meeting the Secondary School course requirements.
  • Passing all five of the High School Equivalency Credentials (General Education Diploma or Canadian Adult Education Credential): or
  • Holding a Northwest Territories Secondary School Graduation Diploma.

Additional Requirements

A medical clearance to confirm fitness to perform physical requirements of the position.

A valid NWT Class 5 Drivers license.
